Do you agree in promises?

So if its hard why still make promises... why do people over use the phrase... "i promise..." whyy not just keep it to themselves and just say... "i'll try" or "i'll do my best" or even better "i will do it" coz it is for certain that it wouldn't be broken and if it will be.... it wont be as much damaging....... right
