the US is a complicated country. all the politics and the frightening media turn the citizens to what it is now. but what can you expect from a world dominating country like the US? try watching Bowling for Columbine.

    http://us.imdb.com/Title?0310793

it recently won the best documentary award in the oscars. it'll give you a general idea about life in the states. very cool.

EZRA, we are not arguing about salaries, I believe. In the US, jobs are readily available (personally I am still connected with a US firm until today as a consultant --- so I would know) and the pay is not something you can just sneeze at. But I am into more basic. For example, I just do not want, in my haste, to mix walking and running while I am eating. In the Philippines, I can have all the time I want for myself --- tables, spoon and fork, music on the side, and eat in full regalia. Oh, no, do not assume I am rich because I can afford that. I believe this is all a matter of perspectives. And I wish you all the best in the US. I have nothing against that. I wish you have nothing against me for liking more the Philippines.

    Blongkoy is absolutely right..
in other words..whatever suits you. Filipino or American Luxury.. can't have both unless you're a multi-millionaire..so choose which one works for you.
this is the line --------- cross it. i dare you

Like you said... it's all a matter of perspectives... put yourself in the shoes of a typical Filipino... from a middle class (if you call it that) family.. fresh from College... realistically speaking. How many years would it take him to where you are right now How long will it take him to be able to buy a house... or at least, a car.. and how long will it take for him to pay all those with his salary?
Now let's say that he's all set by himself... he can keep up with his expenses and what not.... now, eventually he's gonna settle down, have his own family. More expenses, more responsibilities... more headache. Soon, the kids are going to have to go to school... again, tuition fees, etc.... and if the kids gets sick, health insurance are hard to come by in the Philippines so most of the expenses comes out from your pocket. I doubt that an ordinary Filipino employee's salary can keep up with his expenses at this point... that's one of the reasons why LENDING COMPANIES are getting richer.

You're fortunate.. but not all Filipinos are as fortunate as you. That's why they aspire to have a better life someplace else. Would a nurse in the Philippines have better chances to be well-off than a Nurse in the U.S.?? YET, they have the same workload.. the same job description..... and not to mention the benefits...
My brother-n-law .. a consultant for energy-related company gets paid TOP DOLLAR ($240/hr...) will he be able to earn that much in the Philippines doing the same thing? Better yet.... an ordinary contract worker.. earning $15/hr although they do get health benefits.. Medical and Dental... now, these people are no college graduates... and a few of them doesn't have a highschool diploma either, yet they can support their family (together with their spouse), provide food and shelter, and even spares enough change to go have a beer on a Thursday happy hour... what are the chances of an out-of-school youth to make it through life in the Philippines?

Why pamper life's complexities when the leather runs smooth on the passenger seat?

i do agree with you both that there are some who dont make make it big in the
US and there are some who do, its destiny..fate! pardon me for being whimsical
but how else can one explain the success and tragic stories you both know?

it's a matter of contentment. ug kontento ka of what life has to offer sa pinas then good for you, but if you want more then the states is not bad at all. here, if you work hard you can afford and most of the time get what you want. rich and poor people here can eat the same kind of food. as in daghan ang benefits deri kaysa ato.
