urbandub kicks ass!
The original music scene here is virtually non-existant from what I've seen. The audiences here are the worst I've ever seen..period. Why would a band even try to play originals when the audience would rather text than watch the band. Plus, developing a set of original material takes months of writing and rehearsing. All of the musicians that I have interviewed could not afford to spend any time rehearsing. They ALL wanted to know when the first PAYING gig would be. No wonder there aren't more original bands forming/playing anywhere.

myta nay indie radio sa cebu para adto nlang ta submit ato compo. unsaun man gud, magcompo ta nya kita rapud makadungog sa atong compo kay menus kaayong gigs sa mga wail - sama namo.
basically most bands [not all] dont have a talented songwriter...i mean a member of the group who can lead in writing their own songs..the likes of ELY BUENDIA, BAMBOO etc.. are getting fewer this days....
pero naa ra man na sila sa kilid2x, wa lang naau ug gamit ila talent.

But still there are many cebuano bands who play their own composition and even some had conquered in some part of the philippines coz of their music, kung naay showband naa say mga artist theres no lessthan or greaterthan
just my opinion peace out!
agree...
mas makasakay man ang crowd basta cover ila play...coz crowd can sing along with them...and thats what makes the show fun...sa ako lang na obserbahan basta ang banda mo tokar na gani sa ilang compo ang mga nawng sa crowd magmug-ot...
and cebu crowd is different from the crowd in manila in terms of banda...coz sa ako pod nga na obserbahan ang mga taga manila kusog kaayo mo dayg or mo supporta sa mga banda nga mo play ilang mga original compo...
so mao na mostly taga manila gyud ang banda nga mo sikat...
"i like parokya ni edgar a lot!!!" they are very talented in terms of music and they always make a good outcome...
PEOPLE, PEOPLE!! LET'S NOT GET ALL PESSIMISTIC HERE!!! Don't you guys realize that cebu has such a plethora of talent and songwritersLook at it this way, Urbandub is dominating the rock scene in manila, Junior Kilat is currently the No. 1 selling reggae artist in the philippines, and of course, Dice and K9... need i say more
?
Since the 1980's there has been three different "waves" of artists and bands that came out... The first wave were the Local Ground acts; BTU, The Ire, The Monks, 40 the band, etc... The Second wave was composed of the Showground batch; Damian, Millenium, Asphalt, The Brides, Xiomara and the Superheroes, etc... Each of the first two waves had a lifespan of more or less 3-4 yrs (1989-92 and 1994-97)... They weren't that successful..
However, the third wave (circa 199, which saw the rise of such bands as Frank and Sheila and the Insects, (however both bands have their roots in the first and second waves.. well, that's for another story..) was a very sustaining scene which eventually gave rise to the bands we see now namely, Powerspoonz, Urbandub, Junior Kilat, Cattski, Smooth Friction etc... In effect, we are still in the middle of the 3rd Wave, or as to what i call, the "rennaissance".. Never has cebu music been so successful, never has it been so recognized... Hopefully, this would be the last wave, and hopefully this would also go on in perpetuity..
Ponder this: prior to the third wave, very few bands have released albums, let alone EP's. Most of them didn't even get to a second album. On the otherhand, bands from the third wave have been releasing albums left and right. On the average, most of the pioneer bands from the third wave have released at least 2 albums and most of them are making their third or fourth. By the way, haven't you all noticed that most of the NEW garage bands coming out nowadays have at least a demo or a song in tow?
Isn't that a mark of a sustaining music scene??
these are my two cents.. Pardon my ranting, i've always fancied myself as a big fan of cebuano music...
