Featured player for today: GRANT HILL
http://www.nba.com/suns/news/grant-h...ter-basketball
Hill likened his post-NBA life to a rookie season, with many of his former basketball predecessors serving as similar examples now. He credits Shaquille O'Neal, Steve Smith and Steve Kerr, among others, as those who were "models for my own careers as an athlete...and now as a broadcaster.".
The piece is more instructive than emotional, a helpful blueprint for other former athletes who may be struggling through the leap from the court/field to the sideline, press box or living room..
He concludes that his new job -- living his life -- is more valuable than the one that paid him millions over 18 years in the NBA.
Without the routines and rhythms of the NBA, I find there is no "typical" day in my life. Most weekdays, I carpool my kids to and from school, try to enforce the no eating rule in the back seat, return to school for my daughter's basketball practice three times a week, referee arguments, help with homework and participate more fully in my family's day-to-day life. By far, that is the most rewarding and most difficult job I have.

Nindut baya sad ni nga player sauna si Ollie..
Most retired or wala na nag duwa sa NBA for a certain reason are either working as a basketball columnist, assistant coaches or coach.
That's a good example. I think this thread should focus more on former basketball players making a living outside of basketball, that way it's more interesting. It's already a normal transition for them to get a coaching, scouting, and GM position once they hang-up their sneakers. So it's better to post former players who are now working normal or odd jobs like the rest of us.
KEVIN JOHNSON - Mayor of Sacramento, CA
He is the current mayor of Sacramento, the capital city of the U.S. state of California. Elected in 2008 and reelected in 2012, Johnson is the first African American to serve in that office. Prior to entering politics, Johnson was a professional basketball player in the NBA, playing point guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Phoenix Suns. During his 12-year playing career, Johnson was a three-time NBA All-Star and four-time second team All-NBA selection, along with holding numerous records for the Phoenix Suns organization. At the University of California, Berkeley, Johnson was named a two-time All-Pac-10 Conference player and an honorable-mention All-American by the Associated Press. Johnson was a 2000 graduate of the Harvard Divinity School Summer Leadership Institute, a program that prepares students for work in faith-based urban economic revitalization. He also has a B.A. in Political Science from U.C. Berkeley that he completed after his initial retirement from the NBA. Since founding St. HOPE in 1989, Johnson has been extremely active in education reform. As Mayor, Johnson launched two education initiatives, Stand UP and Sacramento READS!, to benefit students in Sacramento.
