I normally look at 3 things in business:
1.) Profitability. Profits are the reason why people get into business (or get employed). Income drives people. That is why networking companies emphasize their compensation plan over products because this can lure in people. People won't be interested on products that they don't know.
2.) Competition. Lesser competition is good for business. More competition means more effort must be exerted and the division of the market share. A lot of people fail to see this part. Load? Loading stations are everywhere. Loans? I'd rather go to reputable banks, coops, and lending companies than a company without SEC registration. Food supplements? Pharmacies, malls, and 85% of networking companies are selling food supplements.
3.) Quality. Quality of the products, quality of service, and for networking companies, stability of the company (reputation of those behind the company, how long is the company operating, how long will it potentially stay in operation, is it sales or recruitment driven?) are of great concern.
Whether its traditional, online, networking, or whatever kind of business, I always consider these three.
Sad thing, most people only look at the profit side.
