I think another modern writer who made vampires quite popular is Anne Rice. It is actually worth reading. Lestat de Lioncourt and Louise de Ponte du Lac became household names when the first of the Vampire Chronicles was adapted into a movie that starred Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt respectively. The Interview of the Vampire gave readers a different perspective, that of the vampires. It spanned to 10 novels. Another great thing about the Anne Rice novels is because she had characters blend in. Aside from the Vampire Chronicles, she also have The Lives of the Mayfair Witches series. And yet, she had vampires and witches intertwined starting in her novel The Queen of the Damned (which was later adapted into a VERY lame movie that starred Stuart Townsend in the role of Lestat). In the story, Rice had the origin of the vampires with the help of ancient twin witches who were later became vampires themselves.

Vampires vs. werewolves, yeah, I find them interesting also. Loved the movie Underworld and the sequel, Underworld: Evolution. I think I'll be the evolved breed, the mixture of both vampire and werewolf (the role played by Speedman). Although the movie utilized the word lycans to refer to werewolves, but according to myth, lycans and werewolves are actually different. A werewolf is a being that transforms from man to a beast but a lycan is an animal that takes its original form of a normal animal but can shapeshift to a beast if provoked. There are different types and the most popular is a Battlycan. A battlycan is a lycan that can be mounted like a horse, a huge cat or a lizard and can transform into a more bigger beasts. The usual normal forms of lycans are dogs and cats and they can be domesticated like regular pets. However, they are more intelligent. According to myth, they are more intelligent than the usual animals but lesser than people but there instincts are greater. People then tends to associate lycans to people who shape-shifts to animals like werewolves. There was an old film that I remembered, I just forget the title that starred Brian Krauss (Return to Blue Lagoon) wherein both he and his mother are lycans. But instead of changing to werewolves, they shape-shift to a cat-like beast. The irony of it, normal cats hated them and are actually fatal to them. A cat bite or scratch made flaming-like cuts in their bodies.

It is believed that that vampire perspiration contains magnesium-based substances which are liable to combustion in certain conditions, including high air temperature (greater than 42C) and specific light wavelengths 560-580nm, when illumination is above 5cd/m2. In effect, this means direct sunlight around dawn and dusk or a 'bright' day, even with substantial cloud cover will tend to cause combustion from within.

However, just the like the stories of vampires, this idea is also just a myth.

I believed that people made the myth about vampires being afraid with sunlight because vampires are associated with the bats and bats are night animals. Meaning, they prey at night and sleep during the day because they can see clearly at night. The myth about vampires then had it that vampires are afraid with sunlight thus, like the bats, they tend to sleep during the day and prey at night.

.. Dracula the character is fiction. While vampires itself is yet to be proven. There are a lot of vampire-cults in the world but it seems that people see them merely as vampire-obsessed-groups. But who knows, i'm still open of the possibility that vampires are real..

ice: and here we are again about Dracula being fiction. Well, it depends as to which Dracula you are refering to. If you mean the character from Bram Stoker's novel, yes the character is indeed fictional. However, if you mean about the historical Dracula who ruled Wallachia, then you are wrong because Vlad Tepes, also known as Dracula or son of Dracul, did exist. Though there are various similarities of Bram Stoker's fictional Dracula and the historical Dracula, but the historical Dracula is not a vampire.

Furthermore, it doesn't mean that since there are cults regarding something, it has to exist. There are no concrete evidence of vampires that would confirm that they are real. Just like dragons. There are various theories and occult with regard to the dragons however, there is no real proof that they did exist or still does. It is a theory that there are serpents resembling dragons in which people mistook as dragons. But still, they are considered as myth...meaning, unreal.
