brod, i'd hate to burst your bubble but maybe, in your office, you are "in-the-need-to-know-basis". you should have been invited to the said presentation if you were, say...VIP. moreso that you're in the "tourism office of the Province." "Cebu City" man ni nga plans 'bay. shouldn't you be proud and optimistic to hear these plans for our city? you don't have to be so SARCASTIC about it. meantime, it's your mission to verify this INFO since you are in the "tourism office of the Province". OK?

good news indeed. I hope naa nay railway system from north to cebu city and from south to cebu city and vice versa.
I guess, its a good way to minimize the population in the city kay ang mga tawo dili na magrent ug rooms if they are working in the city since they can go home in a short period of time using the train.
based on the plans, I think that the city can afford those. 2020 is good indeed.

Chamber bares Cebu Master Plan 2020; province’s P2.1-B budget OKd

CEBU CITY — The Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) has cited the need to implement projects that would make Cebu Province more attractive to tourists.

The Cebu Master Plan 2020, prepared by CCCI’s Cebu Tourism Core Group, identified major infrastructure projects that needed to be implemented in the coastline areas, CCCI president Robert Go said.

The plan aims to turn Cebu into an the information hub, maritime center, and tourism capital of the country, he said.

To realize this goal, he said, there is a need to refurbish historical landmarks and rehabilitate infrastructure facilities to attract foreign investments and tourists.

The proposed projects would improve the Metro Cebu corridor, which covers the coastline from Mandaue Reclamation to the Kawit Island in South Road Properties (former South Reclamation Project) and the Mactan Boardwalk, Go said.

In a related development, a South Korean investor plans to build a 700-room resort in Mactan, which was expected to help alleviate the shortage of resort rooms, a regional tourism official said.

Patria Aurora Roa, Department of Tourism regional director, said the facility would consist of six towers, with 250 rooms for outright hotel operations, and the rest would be on a condotel operation.

The Korean investor, she said, plans to start the project in 2006 and has targeted 2007 for its completion and the start of the resort’s operations.

Roa said the plans for the project are already finished, and the investors are now completing the documentary requirements such as the building and electrical permits.

She said the Korean bought the area, estimated at between seven to eight hectares, from the heirs of Eddie Woolbright.

However, Roa said the projected room capacity of the resort project would not be enough to meet the growing demand.

She noted that it would not be good for Cebu’s tourism industry to always turn away prospective guests because of lack of rooms.

Meanwhile, the Cebu provincial board approved the R2.1-billion 2006 budget of the province prepared by the office of Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia.

The amount is R310 million more than this year’s R1.7-billion budget.

The 2006 budget includes 351 percent increase for social welfare and 131 percent for health.

"This budget espouses the judicious application of resources, bearing in mind my principle of governance that a budget must be - beyond the figures - an approximation of the people’s hopes and aspirations," Garcia’s budget message stated.

Garcia raised allocation for the legislative branch by 132 percent, general services by 151 percent, and engineering by 126 percent. A drastic increase is seen in the item "subsidy for LGUs," which is now R75 million from the estimated R32.9 million in the current year.
