These really are just superstitious beliefs and the driving force behind it is mainly our imagination. However, if these superstitious beliefs make you sleep better at night, then by all means, as long as it doesn't harm anyone else. I don't really mind if there's no 4th or 13th floor and I also don't believe they're unlucky.
