    Default amd 64 3000+ (939) or P4 3.0ghz? which is better?

the kicker from Tom's Hardware, regarding Power Consumption...

However, the Intel Pentium 4 or Pentium D systems also consume more energy in idle mode - more than the Athlon 64 or Athlon 64 X2 under maximum load.

the Pentium D system manages to burn over 200 watts as soon as it's turned on, even when it isn't doing anything. It even exceeds 310 W when working and 350+ W with the graphics card employed! AMD proves that this is not necessary at all: a range of 125 to 190 Watts is much more acceptable (235 counting the graphics card). And that is without Cool & Quiet even enabled.

theres NO intel 64bit edition for desktop market that beats the current power of A64. ang 64bit sa intel naa ra sa server market.. and its a different processor, our regular windows X64 wont run on it. but they did release a Intel 64 para desktop pero reviews showed it was below avg performance.

no dili pa 64 akong OS, pero i already have the final version ( with SP1 ) sa windows x64 still waiting for other softwares nga naay 64bit support which should be out in less than 3 months time.

Pentium 4 600+ w/ 64bit extension was release around last month april, pero it wasnt that impressive gyud, ( benchmark by win32 Win XP pro)

Pentium D (pentium dual core w/ x86-64bit) just recently release first 100,000 chips (may26 '05) $200-$500 starting from 2.8ghz-3.8ghz ,so the war is just about to begin
you mean McKinley (Core Code Name )

which is a stepped down Itanium

the cost of that 64bit ready CPU is about 1,300 to 4,200

    @juan_carlos

your 1.8 GHz athlon 64 runs as fast/a bit faster than 3.0GHz P4...

    anyway...
AMD Athlon 64 vs. Intel P4 Prescott

Temp: AMD wins by a mile!!!

Future compatibility: AMD wins... because it is capable of running 64bit application... BUT!! when will we be having a 64bit os? 2006?2007? by that time, your AMD Athlon 64, would be really slow, for that time's standards...

speed: tie... sometimes, Intel are faster, sometimes AMD are faster

    ...
for me... Intel or AMD... it is fine with me... they are both fast...

it depends on how much your chip can handle, i have friends who dont know about overlocking that much and they ask me to do it, so far out of 5 3200's that ive overlocked 4 of them reached a stable speed of 2.2Gz the other one was left under 2.0, gamay ra among gi overclock kay still using stock cooler
