i don't have anything against these media people portraying bisaya people as housemaids or katulong. it is a decent job and they are good people, well most of them are. they help rich and busy people with their household chores, caring for their children and everything else that needs to be taken care of. yes they may have less education compared to professionals but that doesn't make them less of a person. if they portray housemaids in a demeaning way, that is a mark against them. it only shows how uneducated they are and how stupid they are.

the only thing i am angry about is the way they portray bisaya people in speaking bisaya/cebuano and/or tagalog. yes some of us may have a thick accent but it doesn't sound close to that of what they are portraying on TV. it's annoying. it's not funny. they have such a low sense of humor.

I labeled them as "idiots". they need some multi-cultural exposures so that they'll know why on earth we have these accents, dictions, culture and all sorts of that. their minds are completely devoured by the thought that they speak the national language and so they are above anyone else. The only thing that fuels my anger is, when tagalogs heard a strange language even if the speaker is Ilokano, Kapampangan, etc.., they would yell, "Bisaya ka ba?"..... wheew, such a very ignorant city-monkeys!!!!!!!!!!

see.. mas ugok man diay ning mga tagalog compared sa mga bisaya. they cant even differentiate ilokano and other dialects from bisaya..

'Coz if we do so, mura ra pud ta'g sila.

Dili man nato sila masisi kay naa man jud uban sa atu-a nga gahi ang pronunciation. But who cares At least maayo ko mag-English. Kung mag-iningles man, Pinoy man gihapon bah.

What is, Pinoy gud. Ako kay naka-experience man jud ko. Taga-Mindanao ko. And maski asa ko muadto outside Mindanao, pangutan-on jud ko, peaceful didto? Hell, yes! Kinsa ray mapaulawan.

To sum everything up, kon maglagot mu sa ilahang shows tungod sa ilang pagdiscriminate sa atu-a, then ayaw pagtan-aw. Ayaw i-appreciate ilang shows/movies. Magkaanam man na nga mugamay ilang ratings.

^^I agree with the sentiment of not taking this too personally. It is a serious matter though and action is needed to rectify this.

It seems that every "bisdak" has this personal experience encountering with "tagalogs" but hey people are just people, anywhere.

This is my personal experience myself, I am a third generation Cebuano, born in Cebu but due to the nature of my father's work(with Shell Petroleum) I get to travel and grow in a lot of places: Bacolod, Davao, Bicol, Dumaguete and Manila. But every year I come back to Cebu to spend summer and the year-end holidays. The general outcome of that upbringing caused me to have this neutral, "Filipino" accent which suffice to say sounds a lot like a tagalog accent and something I can't get rid of~ nature being nature.

So when I speak bisaya casually to strangers here in Cebu on the street, in the market.. they would ask-- "Tagalog ka? Taga Manila?" Rather than telling them my life story as a long explanation, I just smile and shrug.

I guess the problem is apparently a lack of education and understanding. Traveling around, I've studied in a lot of schools across the regions.. schoolchildren are not taught Bisaya kasi eh (or ilokano or chavacano)..

i guess all i said previously doesn't NECESSARILY apply to ALL TAGALOGS..... BUT for SOME or maybe MOST OF THEM.......

but anyway, it's better to say it that way so that all of them could think how to be sensitive......

yeah you're right, maybe it's because they were not taught how to speak Bisaya.. but that is not an excuse to laugh US when we speak with our native cebuano accent 'coz I'm sure they were taught how to respect. For me, the reason why Cebuanos asked you if you're a Tagalog is because you sound like one and we're aware how MOST Tagalogs treated us.... we've heard and seen it on TV..... it can be seen to any part of the world....

I have read on the other forum site, the reason why Manila is overcrowded it's because of us BISAYAs... robbers, snatchers, squatters and HOOKERS in Metro Manila, they'd blamed it on US mga BISAYA....and they mean it GENERALLY!!! So if you are a BISAYA, how d'you feel when you heard this comment?

Take for example here in Singapore.
