no offense, but I personally don't think sketching is a skill you can learn overnight.
I mean a sketch that you can impress the judges with.
why not do the usual singing or dancing. heck, do stand-up comedy.

Me and my friend are pioneering the 5 Minute snap draw, but I guess Adeste DeGuilmo has already invented that... once we get the rendering techniques down. Photography will forever be obsolete.

sketching... it can be practiced, it can be taught, some really have it in their bones...
one thing i did... i place my face infront of the idiot box (TV) and start to draw ninja turtles (my first) using only a .5 parker... in less than a day, i learned to draw in proportions even in moving subjects... well, i cant call it sketch anymore coz its outline is so thicky that it looked like printed from an iMAC.. still, i do believe in genes..
but also, practice and passion = perfection...
nobody can defeat CAMERA OBSCURA and PHOTOPLAY

i started sketching when i was 3 years old.... it was like my whole life... hahaha.
my nanay said that when she delivered me in the hospital i was already holding a pen and a sketch pad. LOL
