UP Iloilo wins finance competition

MANILA, Philippines - For the first time ever, a school from outside Metro Manila won the Intercollegiate Finance Competition or ICFC. The University of the Philippines in Iloilo City bested 20 other schools in the 12th ICFC held last Oct. 18 at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. Mentored by Prof. Arthur Barrido, the UP Iloilo Team was composed of Louise dela Cruz, Niņa Jade Lastimosa and Hany Mae Villanueva.
The competition is an annual event of the Jr. Financial Executives (JFINEX) in collaboration with the Asian Institute of Management through the Gov. Jose B. Fernandez Center for Banking and Finance and Washington Sycip Graduate School of Business.
As part of its commitment to support the ICFC, AIM awards full tuition scholarships for the MBA program to the members of the winning team. AIM also awarded a MBA scholarship to Viktor Xenon Lequin (in photo, left) from the University of San Carlos, College of Commerce, in Cebu City for being the top scorer of this year’s AIM Admissions Test (AIMAT). The AIMAT is given to all students comprising the teams of the top 20 schools participating in the ICFC finals.
As in previous years, schools from Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand and Malaysia were invited to the finals.
The 20 schools that participated in this year’s ICFC finals were the defending champion, Ateneo de Manila University, the National University of Singapore, University of San Carlos–Cebu, De La Salle University–Manila, UP–Diliman, University of San Jose Recoletos–Cebu, University of Santo Tomas, University of the East–Manila, University of Baguio, Far Eastern University–Manila, University of Southern Philippines Foundation–Cebu City, UP–Iloilo, Silliman University, Angeles University Foundation, Colegio de San Agustin–Bacolod, De La Salle University–Dasmariņas, Central Philippine University–Iloilo, Pamantasan ng Cabuyao, Technological Institute of the Philippines–Manila, and University of Mindanao–Tagum, Davao.
