let's start at the basics first before we open our yap and blah blah blah about policy, privacy and confidentiality stuffs.

you don't have to ask "is this no. blah blah blah Mike Arroyo's?" or"is the name Mike Arroyo in your list of depositors?".

c'mon guys.. asking for how many digits as far as their bank account no. goes is not really beyond their policy, privacy and confidentiality clause tsk tsk tsk
Actually its you who do not understand the whole legality of the said statement you are trying to point out. Go to any banks in the Philippines and ask a teller or even call them and ask how many digits does their bank account consist? Do you think they will tell you how many digits are there in an account? Of course not!!! That's what privacy and policy stands for they do not disclose any information when it comes to that matter specially when it comes to the privacy of their clients, unless you have something to back up
your inquiry then they will tell you how many digits does their account number has even give out the name of the said owner of the account.

If Cong. Cayetano has enough legal evidence to back up his claim then all he need is a letter from the supreme court and coordinate with the legal affairs of the said bank he can confirm his claim but without that there's no way he can go and just call the bank and ask for the numbers of digits. Evertyhing has to undergo a legal process because there's a privacy law that needs to be undermined here, that's how things work my friend, and if its only that easy then Cong. Cayetano wouldn't have asked FG Mike Arroyo for a waiver and just go directly to the phone and contact the bank. But he knew that there are legal process that he needs to follow aside from knowing that account really exist he also needs to know the date in which the account has been opened and the name of which the account is open to.

... thanks for the info on the legal ramifications on account inquiries. But, really now. what are you trying to say here, you're talking in circles.

.. this is such a blurred issue to begin with. The opposition is desperate in finding ways to oust the president that even the FG's account is being put under the microscope and hoping they can find a link with the President. Is that the only thing our senators and congressmen good at - DIGGING EACH OTHER'S DIRT ??

look closely at the encircled "16 digits" check account no. for Bank of America. and please, spare me from your excuse that so and so is not a reputable banking institution and its policy, legality, privacy and confidentiality etc etc is not at par with Philippine banks...

try typing 17 characters on a 16 digit box if it's possible. and back to topic, do you think you can fit 23 characters on a 22 digit box or vice versa and not encounter errors?

...and DYOBAN, with regards to my being turned-down by tellers because I'm asking for "how many digits?": why bother lining-up when I can ask the "sikyo" where the savings/checking deposit slips are found so I can count the boxes designated for customers acct nos. on said form?

no. of boxes = no. of digits

simple.

so where's the legality in all that? where's the policy, privacy and confidentiality when a deposit slip alone gives you an idea on the no. of digits a customer's account has? tsk tsk
Shut Up! Let your GAME do the talking!

I Think Cayetano is just doing this to have himself at the media.
Maybe he is planning to run as a senator in the coming elections....

Default Cayetano should apologize

Iwas-pusoy si Cayetano. While harping on an alleged secret account of the Arroyos,

1. he cannot present any evidence
2. he refuses to even verify the truth of his own allegations

The Germans must be laughing their butts off at this idiot who didn't know enough to keep his mouth shut where he can't produce any concrete evidence. Our opposition lawmakers are making a show of themselves everywhere, from Germany to the White House, displaying their stupidity for all to see.
