Outages or service interruptions are occurrences we are trying our very best to avoid since we are aware of the inconveniences that they cause you, our valued customer.
Just to clarify, we have outages for a number of reasons.
First of all we have them when the entities that supply us power, or that transport that power, are unable to do so for some reason. Most of our power in Cebu comes from Leyte so when something happens to the submarine transmission line between Cebu and Leyte that effect on our franchise area is significant. When something goes wrong with the geothermal fields over there, or the turbines that use the steam to generate electricity, we feel it right away. When typhoon or strong winds come upon us transmission and distribution lines may also go down, causing outages.
Vegetation may also cause outages by eating into the insulation and causing our fuses to trip as a form of protection. This results in outages as well. Overloaded transformers also trip. Hence when you see vegetation encroaching on power lines, or people tapping or connecting illegally (causing transformer overload) do let us know. That way you are doing your part to avoid outages.
The foregoing are what we consider unplanned outages.
In other instances we have to cause outages due to works that have to be carried out on the network, such as pole removal or relocation or an upgrade of the existing lines. We try to advise you by posting the outages on this website, publishing them in newspapers, announcing over the radio, by email or, soon, via sms.
These are planned outages.
While they are unpleasant for us all, outages are a necessary in the sense that we have to resort to them once in a while in order to improve our distribution network. What we do try in order to make the experience less unpleasant is to inform you so you can prepare and also to keep to our sheduled durations as much as possible.
Thanks for your patience!
