In the earlier times, when Church is in its reformation, indulgences can be bought ... but now indulgences could be achieved by saying prayers, reciting the rosary, offering prayers for souls in purgatory and many more ...

One great source of indulgence is the Divine Mercy Sunday, the first Sunday after Easter wherein if you receive communion that day after holy confession, you will not be only be absolved of your sins, you shall be given plenary indulgence

In confession it means you're asking forgiveness to GOD.
When we ask forgiveness from GOD we should do the first thing, to forgive first so that you will be forgiven.

12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
    Matthew 6:12

Then the next question, where do we confess our sins, or to whom?

    the bible answer:
5 I acknowledge my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.
    Psalms 32:5

then some may refer to this verses and uses it:
21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:
23 Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.

they interpreted that we confess to our sins to man then the man has the power to forgive sins of everyone by giving a set of prayers need to be done.

then its clear that not all sins will be forgiven and on these verses it refers to the disciples.

John 20:21-23 also has the same essence in:

18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
    Matthew 18:18

We will be forgiven if we know how to forgive and confess to GOD.

    Peace!

    confess... to whom?
confession is the act of accepting and recognizing that you have done something wrong.. and for me we can have direct confession to GOD.... that would be better...

What i have learned was that, so far as i can remember, you show your love/hate to God through someone. You can't just say, I hate you God but on the other hand, you are so generous, concerned, loving to others. Now if you feel you have offended God, it would be also practical and sensible to reconcile not just with God, but also with someone that God has given such responsibility, at least in the Catholic teachings. I take the sacrament of reconciliation as something to make things concrete.

The same way with marriage. Why have a wedding ceremony, (be it divine or civil), when you are convinced that you can make your promise or vows between you and your partner in front of God?

In reconciliation/marriage, you are admitting that the community around you is part of your being related to God.

confession is an act of admitting error or fault and the willingness to do penance or do something in order to correct the fault... to whom should i credit the responsibility? hasnt GOD gave me also the responsibility to pray and ask His guidance directly i may admit that a few exist to preach and gave counsel in God's name... but in confession it would be like a covenant between me and God.... in marriage, i wouldnt comment on that for that is practiced already ever before Christ even came.. it is a communion with the Church of two bodies being one in God's eyes...

there are traditions and doctrines practiced by the church which we may not abide upon.. it is not wrong to follow our own interpretation of GOd's will and words as long as we are guided by the Holy Spirit...How that happens, that i dont know and cant explain further...
