Research & Development..for me that's the only area where we can catch up fast with the rest of the world..if the First World countries have the economic advantage, what we must do is to produce intellectuals and research into new and innovative technologies and then present it to the market and hopefully this will attract investors..

Education is a very important factor in this as well as support from the government..unfortunately, our educational quality has still a long ways to go before we can compete with other countries and only if the DOST would support many young researchers out there and not let their ideas/projects go to waste..

Remember a few years back when a water-powered car was reported on tv? The inventor/developer presented his project to the DOST in hopes that the government will support it but he was ignored later on and then he finally said that he would have to settle in selling his technology to a company in Japan since he cannot hope to fund it by himself for a long time..since then i have not heard what happened to him and his project..it is such a waste since i have not yet seen a hydrogen-powered car like his in the market that uses water as the stored fuel instead of pure hydrogen..if we were able to develop it, no doubt it would have attracted the attention of large companies and investors..

Hahahahah...175 years to achieve the standard living conditions of the industrialized country?

Para nko, it doesn't really matter if we won't become an industrialized country just as long as we do not lose our humanity in becoming one. If every Filipino can eat 3 times a day and can enjoy a luxury once in a while, I couldn't ask for more.

IMHO, I think one of the causes of poor governance is our cultures and traditions, i.e. jeepneys. People get the habit that dishonesty often leads to karma. Not paying jeepney fares becomes an acceptable manner because there's no checks and balances, karma is an acceptable outcome. Other countries practice paying first before riding, a good system for checking and balancing.

That is one of the factors on a small scale corruption and dishonesty practiced daily, so how does a large scale corruption apply? Look at the Government right now. ^^,

Actually, I believe that 97% of people who ride jeepneys do pay fares. It's when the amount of money involved increases, when people start to behave in a more dishonest manner. Ergo, the larger the money involved, expect increased chances of cheating.

you may have all the high-end gadgets that the world may offer but that would not guarantee that you are indeed a rich person.....ey! just look around and the evidence of being poor is crystal clear...
