My company has good rates with Microtel in the Philippines. Microtel Mactan is a very big surprise, it is not Micro after all. Everything is perfect in the hotel, the lobby is very nice and chic, the rooms are very inviting and comes with a flat screen LCD (attached to the wall), the restuarant has good Aisan inspired food (price .... soso)
The Beach - bigger than most resort in Cebu
This is the Best Microtel I stayed. Not only that, I think it is far better than some of the more expensive hotels in the area

was able to check out the place as we had lunch there. so far (filipino taste-kay pinoy ko.. hehehe) i find the food very good. also was able to check their rooms, it's about 20 sqm, small but nicely done. they also have their called suite rooms - about 35 sqm and they are located on the corners with rooms facing the beach. the beach is small, approx same as that of hilton. the pool is nice and overall facilities are well done.
it's new, so definitely everything looks nice, i just hope they maintain it.
How did I spend the last four days? Covered the grand opening of Microtel Inn & Suites' Mactan hotel in Cebu for the Philippine Star's Travel section.
It's a big event, considering that this particular Microtel is the biggest in the world with 161 rooms. The hotel itself surprised me because it is so unlike the other Microtels I've stayed in. The ambience is more hip, with funky furniture and brighter ornaments. Even the rooms have that retro feel. In fact, I was half-expecting Brini Maxwell to make a appearance!
Credit to the funktastic hotel goes to the franchise owners, the young enterprising siblings Grand, Joy, Benedict, Mylene, and Enrison Benedicto.
The poolside and beachfront are amazing. We were at the terrace and it didn't feel like we were in Cebu or in the Philippines at all. You just have to be there to experience it yourself.
Even the food at Microtel Mactan is heaven. The kitchen's manned by acclaimed chef Jason Hyatt of nearby Abaca. I predict this place will attract a lot of foodies if only to enjoy the divine cuisine served here.
