I'd say go for the free antivirus if you are not rich. Malwares/spywares/trojans... are mostly user dependent. If you don't fall for those pop-ups, you're fine. If you be careful downloading stuffs on the Net, you'll be fine. There are still malicious files out there that can go along like "drive-by downloads".

However, if you say you wanna buy an antimalware program to continuously protect you... try MalwareBytes. They actually have a freeware... I use that all the time. I work in a rather large company, we have McAfee Enterprise on each PC, but still those trojans penetrate especially to users who have Admin rights on their machines. Trojans are a pain. Most techs would just re-image the whole PC, although files are backe up and transfered to the reimaged HDD. But still.. for me that's laziness.

Try MalwareBytes, it will find and kill most trojans and malwares. Pair it with Spybot.

For paid AV: BitDefender(hands down) or you can use Kapersky as an alternative..

    For free AV: Avira

been testing all available AV's on net for the last 8 months....

Bitdenfender rajud maka detect sa mga virus nga dli ma detect sa uban..
Kapersky also is very solid... pero dugay lang jud kaayo ma finish ug scan..

Advise lang nako anang mogamit ug AVG, much better replace ug Avira FREE... AVG daghan kaayo ug boslot dli ka detect..

    My top 3 would be
    1) BitDefender
    2) Kapersky
    3) NOD32
