coolest thing is the refrigerator/freezer...think of the world without ICE cubes...
then syempre with frozen foods comes microwave to the rescue...hehehe...

Second to Religion as the coolest would be...
Screws(philip,flat,star,allen etc...)...yup most of the things mentioned from previous post are assembled and putted together by a mare Screws.
here's what!! imagine that all the screws around will be vanished from the moment you've read this...
you could end up dead..
-your chair might be attached by a screw
-the support bar that holds the ceiling
-your monitor.
-etc...

Not to get nitpicky but fire was not invented, it was discovered. Same with electricity. (e.g. electricity is a product of discovery, where as electric bulb is an invention.)
Coolest inventions? How about the six classic simple machines: lever, wheel and axle, pulley, inclined plane, wedge and screw.

we have glue. we have welding. we have nails. we had snap together designs. screwless casings/housings are not uncommon.
