    ARCHITECTURAL TERMS

    Sense of Entry
The front door is big and far away.

    Human Scale
    Less than 400 feet tall.

    Skewed Grid
The design looked too boring with a regular grid.

    Pedestrian-Oriented
    Doesn’t have enough parking.

    Contextual
Is surrounded by a lot of other buildings the architect couldn’t tear down.

    Theoretical
Nobody in their right mind would ever consider building the crazy thing.

    Signature Building
    You can’t afford it.

    Less Is More

The designer ran out of ideas. Cheap Skate.

    Classically Proportioned

Traced out of a book of Greek architecture.

    Postmodern

Traced out of a book of Roman architecture.

    International Style

No country will take responsibility for it.

    Deconstructivist

The backhoe ran into it during construction—and they liked it.

    Seismically Designed High Rise

In an earthquake, the structure will not collapse, but will drop all of its glass and stone panels into the street turning pedestrians into a stew-like mush of pureed flesh.

    Jury

    Firing squad.

    Design Review Board

    Failed architecture majors.

    Architecture is very challenging!
It is an idea driven discipline........
    You design and construct buildings!

One of my favorite architects is Berthold Konrad Hermann Albert Speer, commonly known as Albert Speer. He was an architect, author and, for part of World War II, Minister of Armaments and War, sometimes called "the first architect of the Third Reich".

Speer was Hitler's chief architect before becoming his Minister for Armaments during World War II. He reformed Germany's war production to the extent that it continued to increase despite massive and devastating Allied bombing. After the war, he was tried at Nuremberg and sentenced to 20 years' imprisonment for his role in the Third Reich. As "the Nazi who said sorry", he was the only senior Nazi figure to admit guilt and express remorse, many referred to him as the "Good Nazi" and a book on his life was written with that title. Following his release in 1966, he became an author, writing two bestselling autobiographical works, and a third about the Third Reich. His two autobiographical works, Inside the Third Reich and Spandau: the Secret Diaries detailed his often close personal relationship with Adolf Hitler, and have provided readers and historians with an unequaled personal view inside the workings of the Third Reich. Speer died in 1981, in London, England.

    Shalom.

P.S. I'm an architect by heart, hehehe.

i don't know why, but i really find gehry's buildings hideous, but that's just me. Maybe because
i prefer buildings that incorporate sullivan's principle "form follows function".
i'm not really into architectural masturbation like frank gehry... but hey, everyone have different tastes.
Gehry's style is labeled as deconstructivism by arki critics.

here are previews of tadao ando's work
