I see some potential problems into the villains mentioned: Chris Nolan wants realistic characters - in TDK Joker was made into a manical anarchist in clown make-up while Two-Face was a good guy driven into insanity thru an elaborate scheme of corruption and deception; originality seems likely to be tougher otherwise it will suffer and no high paid actors can save a franchise this big unless the story can weave ideally to the characters we know in comicdom.
I agree with rigormortis that it were still speculations - a gimmick to raise the bar of the current movie and create a hype for the sequel...... Hollywood works that way.....

they'll have a hard time surpassing heath ledger's performance as the joker. i personally think even ledger surpassed nicholson's portrayal.

The villain in Batman named Riddler was played on the small screen by Frank Gorshin in the 1960s, and by Jim Carrey in 1995 movie Batman Forever.

Now that The Dark Knight broke all records at the box office shortly after its release, the producers are planning one more Batman film, which will be directed by Chris Nolan and Johnny Depp is tipped to play Riddler.

Similarly, the role of Penguin will be played by Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Penguin was played on the small screen by Burgess Meredith and on the big screen by Danny DeVito.

philip seymour hoffman is a good actor. i wonder how he's going to act out the role of penguin.

johnny dep would be a cool riddler too, but i cant imagine him just yet.

he's too tied with the creepy roles that tim burton gives him.
