Oh, rest assured I am well-versed of it. Who wouldn't when there's MTV and other music shows to speak of.Originally Posted by EZRA
But then again, I am raising hopes here. US music of late must be dominated with hip-hop pop genre. But this, too, is not always the trend. Times change, people change, and likes change. The wave is, I believe, unpredictable.
And there's always a room for the talent. That I'm sure. If given a big break Regine can make it - a good album and with good songs considered. And if she can't make it in the US - hell, she can start in Europe.
And to your comment that her voice turns nasal, is in fact, subjective. You need to browse I guess her other performances in YouTube.com. There, you can see she's gaining style and gaining more power.
Good day to you.
SHELL NOT GONA MAKE IT ANYMORE
I have TFCÂ* so I see her every now and then, yes.. her voiceÂ* gets thin and nasal when she goes up ... and she has to work on her diction too..Â* she sang that Palasyo song and she pronounced it PALASYUUUUUUUU ...
You're basing your opinions on MTV??Â* MTV does not even scratch the surface .. and what does MTV play nowadays anyway?? Reality shows?Â* Even VH1 is jumping oon that bandwagon... Hell even MTV2 is on that thing as well.... the only thing that's worth watching nowadays is FUSE since they actually play music....
You're biased in your opinions since obviously you're a Regine fan.Â* But be realistic... Like I said, I'm sure her people has tried to push her stuff to their international partners... but I don't think the higher-ups are impressed at all.Â*
Thing is.. the market for her type of music is very competitive... and for a foreigner who doesn't write her own songs, who doesn't arrange her stuff, basically.. just a mere performer (not an artist), how can she competeÂ* This is the stuff that you can't get from MTV - there are lots of music schools in the U.S. where they groom musicians.. we have Julliard, Berklee, and all the other Universities that offer music programs.. once these people graduate or even drop out to pursue their music career (People like Alicia Keys, Norah Jones, John Mayer, etc..), where do you think would they run to... do you think REGINE can compete against these guys??Â* And how about the naturaly talented kids that pops up every now and then... The Beyonces, the Clay Aikens,Â* and the Kelly Clarksons out there... do you think Regine can compete??Â* Â*
Reality Check - there is no market for a Filipino performer here (outside the Filipino Community) unless she's really THAT good ... now LEA SALONGA is that good (I'm not a fan... just for the sake of comparison).Â* Her vocal quality is up there... hey, Disney picked her to sing that Mulan song or was it Alladin.. well, regardless.. she must be that good since she got chosen to sing for the soundtrack.Â* Point is, Lea didn't even make that much impression on the recod execs to give her a major record deal yet she can sing circles around Regine.Â* Â*
Why pamper life's complexities when the leather runs smooth on the passenger seat?

No, she can't make it! In fairness, for me, she's good!
hmmm...she's good enuff i guess..but cguro nagka edad nsad..am sure there wud b sumone out there in d philippines hu's a lot better than her..sumone younger and more talented...hi shamnaraine
As I will say again "and other music shows."Originally Posted by EZRA
And polishing your enunciation (not diction. diction defines to be the choice of words) requires no sweat at all. All she needs to do is stay in America for the better part of two years, or whatever necessary for her to jive in the American twang. Yes, she may not be the one who writes her songs, so is Celine Dion, Fantasia, among others. And you compare Regine to those artists you mentioned would still be debatable. I've seen a lot of international singers who can pull it off pretty good in recording but in a live show they fail.
US recording industry does wondrous things to an artist's album. Of course, with a lot of money to dish out, they can always make a good singer to sound great. Hoobastank was chief of them whose song Reason sounded really great when heard thru their album, but when the band do it in live they absolutely sucks. A lot of others lip synch even because they cannot give justice to their recording that were obviously electronically made.
And yeah, I don't know what's your definition of nasal, too. Because I never heard her sing in nasal way. Except maybe when got hoarse after a concert or two. Hell, any music experts would tell you she's adept using her diaphragm, courtesy of her training when she was a kid. It's obviously right her voice gets thin. It always does when you raise your voice to the high notes.
To answer if she really can make it big, I will leave you with this article from AskMen.com (a US web magazine) that features Regine. Like me, they still have hopes she can make it.

She can. Maybe in a Celine-Dion-kind-of-way.
