Magick has been a practiced art even before Christ's time. Even Jesus' forefathers practiced them. King Solomon, King David and the other Kings in Europe. I'm sure everone is familiar with King Arthur. Though it is merely a legend (as of this date though some will disagree), but his story mirrors the lives of the Kings then. Remember that he has Merlin in his aid. Astronomers, wizards, and the sorts, they are included in a King's court. Their role is like the Prime Ministers of today.
Although, the types of magick will come back to you, I have also read that you may be able to invoke them. Like for example, I cursed somebody or did magick to create his untimely death, and I don't want my deeds to come back to me, I could practice the ritual of invocation. In Christianity, it is like you sinned, and then you ask for forgiveness so that you may be forgiven and then whatever you have done will not come back to you. But I have read that it is difficult. That only a master of the art can do so.
I hope you don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that I believe in magick but I'm not saying that I don't believe in it too. One thing for sure, there are forces around us that even science cound not explain yet. But in my opinion, I do believe in the untapped power of the mind. The psychics, ESP and the likes. Perhaps practicing magick is like tapping into that part of your brain that creates the power of ESP or the Extra-Sensory Perception. I know that the average man only uses less than half of his brain. A few was able to tap the rest of them. I think they are the ones who are capable of magick. I think the rituals are just something that makes that part of the brain focus on what they want to happen that's why it happens.

i've heard a lot of stories with regards to the practice.. but nothing to verify and confirm yet..
