    Drivers' rally leaves thousands stranded
By Ferliza C. Contratista and Aj De La Torre Updated March 17, 2009 12:00 AM

CEBU, Philippines - Drivers, who took part in yesterday’s protest action against the increase in fines on traffic violations, face sanctions as thousands of commuters were stranded despite the announcement that there was no transport strike.

Commuters from the cities of Cebu, Talisay and Mandaue and those from nearby municipalities were affected by the drivers’ protest as several joined the march from Fuente Osmeña while others decided not to ply their routes.

An irked Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña has asked the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to take drastic action, possibly to revoke the franchises of those jeepneys where the routes were crippled.

I SAY YES TO FINE INCREASE!!! PARA MATAGAM UG MA DISIPLINA. this is the only way. sa Manila mas mahal paman gani cguro ang fines...

    I agree:

    (1) driving under influence of drugs from 2,000 to 10,000 automatic revocation of license.
what is unfair about that? surely we dont want someone driving in the influence of drugs.

BUT how will u know on-the-spot if a driver is on drugs? kad2ng mag overspeeding? like one suspected of using one has to undergo a drug test? what if wala diay nigamit but nasobrahan lng ug kape? and if then, what about the time lost of the driver?

    (2) driving under the influence of liquor 2,000 to 5,000
again, how many accidents involves drunk driving? clearly, the 2,000 penalty before did not prevent them, hopefully this will.

BUT how will u know the alcohol in his blood exceeds the limit? kanang mag ikis2x ug mabangga na? AFAIK, in the U.S., a driver can have a little drink but not too much to exceed the set alcohol level in the body. They use some kind of gadget to measure by breathing into it.

    (3) without license? 750 to 1,500
why the heck will you drive without a license?
common scenario will be a drivers failure to carry his/her drivers license, right? well, thats not the same as drivers without a license. it falls on failure to carry a licence and just 200 pesos sunction for that.

Yes, this is fair enough. why the heck will u drive w/o a license (unless nkalimtan ug dala)? doesn't make sense at all.

    Driving without license - 1,500
Under the influence of liquor - 5,000 plus 2 months suspension of license
Under the influence of illegal drugs - 10,000
PUJ out of line route - 6,000

    unsa inyong comment ani?
    1. Everybody knows it's illegal to drive without license.
    2. Under the influence of liquor - di mabayran ug kwarta ang kinabuhi nga maamong.
    3. Under the influence of illegal drugs - the more consequences, basin mangidnap na ug babaye para gang bang.
    4. PUJ out of line route - common sense.

so i think it's just reasonable.
    matud pa, nganong gituyoan?

therefore naay possibility nga ang mga nangusog ug supak ani kadtong mga palahubog, mga adik, ug mga way lisensya.

there are already drug testing kit that are available in the market. I am not sure if the one being used by the random school drug test and random barangay drug test is the same kit that is already available in the market wherein you can have the results in seconds, comparable to instant pregnancy tests. But surely when you are arrested for drunk driving or arrested for driving in the influence of drugs, it would not be the same as just issuing you a ticket and let you drive afterwards. They can very well detain you, for a reasonable period of time for them to conduct tests and maybe for the violator to prove otherwise. It doesnt mean if we dont have the same gadgets that US is using right now, we cant already implement the same law. We can very well rely on resources available to us right here and right now.

There are lots of incidents wherein a person will drive without a license. Minors, usually are committing such offenses. Or just plain lazy to get a drivers license. Nakalimtan is not the same as you do not have a license. It means to say that your drivers license is not in your possession.

kaning klase sa patakaran di man ni pareha anang mga No Entry ug mga No U-Turn nga madala lang ug "wa ko kabantay sir"

klaro man jud kaayo ni nga mga tinuyo-an, so nganong mosupak man ta kung mahal ang multa?

in my opinion, it's just the same as saying "Magstrike ta oy kay P500,000 na ang multa sa mang-rape sugod next week"

I did not find man gani sa schedule of penalties diri sa sunstar karun na issue which will concerns anang mga PUJ jud. like for example stopping sa dili jeepney stop, maghulat sa jeepney stop ug pila ka minuto nga kaabi ug terminal ang jeepney stop. the violations naa naa sa newspapers are general man, applicable to both public and private.

    2. mangayo ug dugang
    3. BAHO KAAYO ANG TAXI
    4. hugaw kaayo
    5. guba ug aircon.
