graphics in linux is cool basin kalimot ra ka install sa graphics driver specially kong ATI or NVIDIA card ka. They need to be installed separately pero just a matter of clicking ra man.
Regarding sa imong Dad. nag unsa siya sa audio/video, editing ba? or just watching movies and listening to musics? I can suggest multimedia application for a specific usage.
Linux, by nature, is a multi-user environment unlike windows na dili. actually, windows adapted multi-user environment started sa mga NT OR ME na guro(correct me if im wrong) up to latest version of windows.anyways what linux distribution ang gamit nimo? ubuntu? i can teach you how to create multiple accounts but i need to know first what distribution you are using.
you just have to install the driver. sometimes ang driver sa specific hardware kay nakadisable need pa enable. anyways what distribution you are using? i can help you with that problem.

^ Usually new laptops have to wait for a month before fully supported sa ubuntu or linux but usually ubuntu works great but you have to use a wired connection to update para mas ok ang wireless.
I have successfully installed linux mint LXDE to an old asus netbook model maka connect man siya sa wifi lupig pa ang MSI WinXP sa ako amigo kay dili ma maka connect sa WiFi lulz

DELL is for Linux.
Asus run well on ubuntu / linux. Rule of thumb if that laptop is also sold with linux / ubuntu chances are it will support it.
