I think you are partly wrong, the government is manipulating this issue to divert attention from the public and forget the NBN ZTE investigation. There are too many questions unanswered and GMA has no plan to say sorry again to the public like what she did in 2004 election.

    basta pag andam namo

    just idea

from seed to rice it take 4.5 months under ideal conditions (plenty of water)

so with rice prices going up... expect farmer to plant more.... which in effect could bring more harvest and lower the price.

A year ago I purchased a great book written by Mr. Rey Angeles entitled THE PHILIPPINE ECONOMY DO OUR LEADERS HAVE A CLUE? In several pages of the book (starting on page 19) Mr. Angeles already raised a lot of questions on the data coming from the agricultural sector. Below is my understanding of what he wrote.
A lot of you may be familiar with the touted growth of the economy in leaps and bounds in the recent years. A significant % of that growth the government attributes to the increased agricultural output (in 2006 close to 4%) and yet Mr. Angeles asks... despite such a remarkable growth in farm output (this despite the typhoons,) why did the NFA import roughly 15 million metric tons of rice whcih cost the NFA 22 B Pesos making it the biggest loser of all GOCC's?
If we do the math, we have a 4% increase in rice production in 2006 on top of which we imported several tons of rice and yet the popolution increased by only 2%.... who were we feeding? According to the NFA Adminstrator Gregorio Tan , it was for buffer stock. Okay we probably did the same thing in 2007. So where are the buffer stocks now? Why the long queus? And why is it that according to the latest issue of the Newsweek Magazine " ON the United Nations lis of coutnries most vulnerable to food shocks (according to their demand for imported food), Indonesia, the Philippines and Bangladesh rank first second and fourth respectively"
As a citizen, I can only come up with two possibilites either 1) the agriculture sector never really achieved the growth that the government said it did thereby our economy did not actually grow in "leaps and bounds" and that the importations we made were really to meet current demand OR 2) We DO HAVE BUFFER STOCK from all of that importation but that the crisis is a good time to make more money for the rice cartels
This is a huge concern and all of us need to sit up and start seeing through all the lies and window dressing.
