Now that this case is going to the Supreme Court and the eventual decision is that we cannot go on with chacha... what shall you do next?
If you ask me, and my opinion is this: Our country will never ever have a chance for a brighter future. With the gridlock in all directions it will be hopeless.
And what shall I do? Mamutos nalang ug molangyaw sa ubang nasud mentras mahimo pa. Pamahala nalang and I'll leave this beloved country to our politicians with insatiable greed for power, fame and glory.
How can a parliamentary form of government solve our countries corruption? How will it transform greedy politicians into selfless individual?
Yes we can see some countries that have a parliament form of government to be successful, but is it bec of its form of govt. or its people?
I think that the inevitable decision of the Supreme Court will ultimately clarify the matter. This will end the trivial question on whether we could avail the people's initiative to amend the constitution. After all, the Supreme Court is the final arbiter when it comes to controversial issues like this.
Hopefully the Supreme Court could provide a very-well written decision on this case.
I think a change of government would be better than our situation now. I think!![]()
People’s initiative bid goes to high court
CHARTER Change advocates are today expected to petition the Supreme Court to recognize a people’s initiative to amend the 1987 Constitution and shift to a parliamentary system of government.
Sigaw ng Bayan spokesman Raul Lambino and Bohol Gov. Erico Aumentado, president of the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines, said they will ask the high court to order the Commission on Elections to set the date for a referendum on the proposed amendments.
Lambino said the 6.3 million Filipino voters who signed the petition for a people’s initiative had been included as cofilers.
“We reiterate that mandamus is a proper recourse for a citizen to enforce a public right and to compel the performance of a public duty, most especially when mandated by the Constitution,” Lambino and Aumentado said in their joint petition.
They said the Comelec abused its authority when it dismissed their petition but recognized that there appeared to be 6.3 million verified signatures supporting it.
The petition comes even as city mayors asserted after a meeting that amending the Constitution—and changing the presidential system of government—was “no longer a choice but an absolute necessity to put the country on the path to stability and economic development.”
“We must look beyond politics and agree on this basic reform initiative if we are to keep the Philippines from falling farther behind the region’s robust and emerging economies,” said Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Trenas, head of the League of Cities of the Philippines.
But Comelec Chairman Benjamin Abalos said changing the form of government needed a revision and not an amendment of the law providing for it.
