I agree, this is a very interesting thread. I'm considering the hobby, although I'm a bit hesitant to start because I'm not even a mountaineer nor have I entertained the thought. I do love knives though; My dad and I used to camp in OUR backyard and he'd let me use a really cool, military-looking knife...sort of the one Rambo used to carry.

    Good luck, guys!

You should not hesitate @Khug Moo Hoon. We are not mountaineers. It's a fact that mountaineering is not existent here in the Philippines. The UIAA describes mountaineering as an activity done at or above 14,000 feet or 4,000 meters above sea level which we do not have. Our highest, Mt. Apo (10,028 +- FASL), is just a pygmy. Your dad is a true bushman. Mountaineering forbids you to carry even a 2-inch knife if you follow their adherence to the Leave No Trace. Bushcraft & survival dispels all of that and it encourages you to bring your best blades in the furtherance of your learning/practicing of wilderness skills. Camp Red ensures that.
