    ^^

I think it will meet their expectations. It will even be more than what they would expect, I guess.

They already know that the Philippines is a third world country (mind you, in other forums some people from Singapore or Malaysia actually think that the Philippines is poorer than Cambodia). Aside from that, the summit is being held in Cebu and not in Manila -- the more that they would have less expectations.

But I do hope that the completion of the CICC, the high-end resorts and hotels in Mactan and Cebu, and other factors will be "more than their expectations." At least some of them wouldn't think that the Philippines is poorer than Cambodia. Hehehehehe...

    Just a thought:
Why do we need an ASEAN SUMMIT in order to build this kind of structures..
I find it unfair for the rest of taxpayers in this country that they should be enjoying the improved roads and highways and improved government services even without these visitors.
How bout those times when we dont have an event like this, pasagdan lang na guba ang dalan, dili mabayran ang mga teachers, dili masulbad ang vigilantes, gubot kaayo ang dalan sa cabancalan, way klarong traffic light sa highway seno...etc..etc..
If the government should provide this services to people, why do we have to wait for an event like this? kay kang kinsa man diay nang kwarta ang gigamit para CICC? di ba taxpayer's money man na..

i really hope so, mr. arnoldsa. i do not doubt the beauty and level of service these spectacular hotels posess... it's just that i think that if the event won't give a good impression about our country then it better not give any other impression.

"We have to really strengthen our ports. It is possible na manggaling sa ibang region or even from Manila darating dito may laman pala. That might contribute to the threat dito sa Region 7," pahayag ni Chief Superintendent Silverio Alarcio Jr.

"As far as our monitoring is concerned, wala na sila dito. We are monitoring their movement. As of now they are not in Cebu," dagdag pa nito.

"We have to remain vigilant, innovate our operational and planning system and the way we think and the way we treat terrorists. We have to deal with them seriously because they are very, very serious," ani Mendoza.

    bai WEED..ready naba?

Hotels, resorts ‘ready’ for Asean summit, says DOT exec

FORTY-TWO representatives of different hotels, resorts and a few pension houses assured Tourism Undersecretary Phineas Alburo that they “are ready” for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Leaders’ Summit in December.

“They assured me they are ready,” Alburo said, following a meeting with hotel, resort and pension house representatives yesterday at the Civil Service Commission office.

Alburo said that by the last week of this month, three teams from the Department of Tourism (DOT) will start inspecting hotels and resorts in Cebu that had committed to upgrade their facilities for the Asean summit.

He told Sun.Star Cebu that each team will be composed of 14 DOT inspectors from Manila and Cebu.

    Criteria

He said the team will check the rooms whether these will meet the criteria set by DOT.

“It has to be presentable and ready for the prime ministers and delegates,” Alburo said.

He added the rooms should be complete with amenities, including a telephone line.

He said the inspection will be conducted in a “fair” manner.

Alburo did not say when the inspection will be completed, adding that the DOT is still getting requests for additional rooms.

He assured, though, that the inspection “will not take long” since the DOT will mainly assess the rooms, not process the accreditation of hotels and resorts.

He said 3,747 rooms and suites are estimated to be reserved from Dec. 8 to 14, in relation to the Asean summit.

Although the number of official foreign delegates is expected to be between 3,000 and 4,000, Alburo is confident the province can still accommodate the influx of visitors since some rooms will hold two or three people. (MMM)

    Ready to RAKENROLL bai!

All rooms at the HILTON CEBU are perfectly ready, and at their best... Actually, we are even adding rooms from our third tower to the hotel inventory for the ASEAN, as Cebu doesnt have enough 5-star rooms...

In our last meeting with GMA, she allocated our hotel for the Japanese delegation (not part of ASEAN, but they have their media and diplomats covering the event)... So far we have hosted many advance parties that have been inspecting the rooms, and the complex in general, with regards to amenities, standards, security, emergency procedures, etc...

I can't say much about the other hotels, but I am sure that they too are beefing up their standards to meet the ASEAN's needs...

As long as those crazy terrorists dont try anything stupid, I believe that with regards to the Cebu hotels, the ASEAN can be pulled off without any major hiccups...
