Cebu’s solo promotion ‘a bit dangerous’ - AIM

Marketing Cebu to the rest of the world as an island distinct from the Philippines is “a little bit dangerous,” according to Asian Institute of Management (AIM) president Francis Estrada.

“This could create tension within the Philippines. Cebu, as well as the rest of the country, could not penetrate the global market alone,” he said an interview at the Cebu Parklane International Hotel yesterday.

He said Cebu cannot escape the fact that it is part of the Philippines.

Summit security <click for more info>

According to Roderos, the deputy regional head for administration of the Central Visayas police force, there are about 6,000 police officers and men being utilized for the task of securing the estimated 10,000 visitors coming for the summit.

Of this number, an augmentation force of about a thousand members are from the other provinces of the Visayas and Mindanao. Some 15 percent of them are women to help out, most probably, with securing the spouses of the delegates.

Intensive training of the participants in the summit’s security network is moving forward at fever pitch, with the Provincial Government pitching in material assistance.

The setting up of a communication network throughout the island, Roderos said, is one of the province’s contributions. Municipalities are now connected with the network so that quick response to emergencies from the local government units can be expected.

i'm aware of architect guanzon's reputation. they're good in what they do but i just don't think that Cebu is ready for this sort of thing just yet... of course the summit will help Cebu and the country in numerous ways but it may give opposite effects if it doesn't meet "their" expectations...
