Kamikaze = point taken. I guess we all have lessons to learn.
well in my point of view, di ko ganahan sa "noodle sticks". you might call me a traditional FMAer cuz maguba man gud ang FMA kung ana.we should be reminded that the FMA is not really stick based but it is based on the blade "kalis" (thus the term "kali). Mas ganahan ko sa NARAPHIL and WEKAF na rules wherein you use body armor and live sticks. mao to.but unta no naay FMA na convention wherein tanang style magsabot jud unsa atong tournament rules.hehe.i wish!
Correct ka pauwiks. But if we will be in SEA Games rules and regulations will change as long as traditonal system of fighting is there... Ako sad bay, ganahan ko nga maggamit ug body armor unya real stick. Tinuod nga dili lang sticks ang kali but most martial artists outside pilipinas are still segregating the arts - stick based, empty-hand based and knife, blade based of fighting. It might be a suggestion that we use 3 categories in SEA games... sticks, hands and blade (forms only). Diri sa States - Grandmasters and Masters are trying to make an open tournament for FMA fighting system. Maayo unta nga ma hinayun next year ang ilang sabut-sabut.

thats why the statement of Karate having no chance of winning against Kali is false, right? because tanang tawo knows a bit of fighting. Pwede gani taghapan ra
kamikaze: just have to comment on this - let me put it this way - just an example - two opponents face off, both of same skill, same age, same temperament, same martial arts experience, same everything... let's say that the person you're facing is an exact replica of yourself but your double has a knife and you don't (both know how to use a knife and both know how to disarm knife-wielding assailants) - then, let's be honest, what happens in such a situation? kali is a weapons-based art, karate an unarmed (kara: empty, te: hand) art - different orientation, different indoctrination, and a very different attitude - different arts..

    so?

no two person is exaclty the same. one may have an upperhand to one area, and may have certain weakness, and this weakness maybe the strength of the other person. and there is no such thing as exact replica, even twins doesnt have the exact skills.

    qoute:

... let's say that the person you're facing is an exact replica of yourself but your double has a knife and you don't (both know how to use a knife and both know how to disarm knife-wielding assailants) - then, let's be honest, what happens in such a situation?

what youre saying is situational, its is the varying degree that am talking about, not specific situation.

there are percentage of winning, but its not the same thing as to making a conclusive remarks.

for example: i hold a gun, and you have a knife. does it a guarantee that i will win? what if the gun wont fire, or missed my shot? what if youre behind me? you see IT DEPENDS ,IT DEPENDS AND IT DEPENDS

Defferent martial arts its hard to analyze who's the best. If i am an empty hand fighter then i fight with same rank of mine but with a stick or sword or anything, mag lisud gyud ko. If my opponent will fight me even, kana morag nindut nana. What i trying to say is, di gyud puwede mo ingon who is the best style if dili parehas ang laban....a he he he he he he..........

I agree with Sir Kamikaze. Whenever you are in a fight, the outcome is always unpredictable. A lot of people thought that Mike Tyson is unbeatable until Evander Holyfeld.

kamikaze: no conluding remarks there, just stating that there are different types of mentalities that are being propagated by different martial arts - your point re: varying degrees is noted and taken and i hope that you've noted mine

re: your example, if one person has a gun and the other has a knife, i agree that the gun doesn't necessarily guarantee a win - but it sure ups the ante - but i'd rather not get stuck up w/the what ifs - i guess the proof of the pudding is in the eating - to each his own.. make mine jollibee!

baddog: kali people never fight fair

2tdruid: tama ka, the outcome of any fight is always unpredictable, accidents do happen - as martial artists it is imperative that we try as much as possible to put the odds to our favor - as much as possible we don't fight a fight we can't win.. no false confidence in our skills - on a bad day, better to avoid a weapon-wielding assailant and run away and live again to fight another day..

Yes your right. I think it is better to avoid any kind of conflict even if you are in an advantagious or disadvantagious position.
