evil, my friend, (or what is deemed evil) is subject to a certain society's morality. it is a label that people (or society) places to those who dare to subvert or negate the social control mechanisms and institutions that are already in place. 'good' and 'evil' are applied to ideas and people according to a either percieved benefit or detriment, respectively. morality aims to preserve the status quo (whether for the benefit or the detriment of the people). as u can see, morality is always there to place the label of 'heresy' and 'evil' both to those who aim to harm society and those who try to change it. religion, theistic belief and morality, are after all, social institutions that permeate control and conformity.
so much for the sociological side of the problem of evil. now to the logical.
it is not even a question, based on the premises that you supplied if indeed i am evil.but the main push of your acceptance of that simple logic i have presented is the glaring fact that it rendered the concept of god impossible. the mere existence of evil (or the non-existence of good in those cases if you want to insist), and yes, the fact that hitler existsted (and that he was supposely allowed to exist by a supreme being) abolishes the god concept in its entirety.
why does he allow evil? = 'free will'
why does he allow free will = 'eternal, unconditional love'
'eternal, unconditional love' = cause of evil
evil which happens when god is not around. wow. nice.
and god supposedly knows all of this as he supposedly knows everything.
the mere fact that evil happens is
it is hard to accept that, of course, because it is the status quo belief. and we are being trained not to me critical about these things. they are after all deemed to me beleived without question, or in common parlance, 'faith'.Originally Posted by Epicurius

it is not as if only the things that you can see are the only things you can observe.to throw the ball at you, do you now believe that you do not have a brain because, well, you cannot see it? it does not mean that if one things cannot be seen, it is not there. and no. this is not just about sight. this is about observation, which means that it includes measuring the effects of something, and experimentation.
ultraviolet and infrared radiation cannot be seen by the naked eye that includes bacteria and other mircoorganisms. but with the proper optics developed because of optical theory, we now can see them.

New Testament
After the first temptation of man God gave man freewill. But men destroyed men...
He sent messengers, He did not want to intercede.God sent Noah to his people and asked him to tell them to worship none but the One, who was the Creator of all. He was also told to warn them that 'stern retribution will overtake them' if they did not heed his call.
The nobles among them refused to believe him. They said: You are just a human being like us; why should we follow you? Except the vulgar who may thoughtlessly hasten to listen to you, you have no superiority over us; in fact, you are nothing but an impostor [11:27]
Tales of destruction/punishment in the Old Testament tells us how God wanted to save His people from their own destruction. I guess He got tired of it and promised not to do it anymore. So on and forth, thus the Old Testament.Originally Posted by Genesis 6:6,7
New Testament - the coming of Christ
God sent His only begotten son to save mankind. He spoke to men and made miracles and taught them to know the Lord.
He died on the cross and ascended to heaven. The Holy Spirit came to reside within Jesus Christ's true followers after Jesus rose from the dead and ascended to heaven (Acts 2). Jesus told His apostles...

yes most definitely i do believe in God, when i was in those troubled times, he was there for me, even if had turned my back at Him, he was still there to carry me and made me realize that is He is the answer and He is the only one you can turn to when you dont have anyone. when everyone turn their back at you, He for once never left my side. so yes i do believe He exist and He is there for all of us. one has to call Him and He really answers
I DO BELIEVE IN GOD!So as I do believe that I'll never be here if it wasn;t because of HIM. I have to share something I've read bout Inevitabilty of Faith.
Everyone believes in something. No one can endure the stress, anxieties ,perplexities and cares of life without faith in something that cannot ultimately be proven. Atheists cannot prove there is no God. Pantheists cannot prove that everything is God. Pragmatists cannot prove that what will count for them in the future is what works for them now. Nor can agnostics prove that it is impossible to know one way or the other.
Faith is unavoidable, even if we choose to believe only in ourselves. What is to be decided is what evidence we think is pertinent, how we are going to interpret that evidence, and who or what we are willing to believe in (Luke 16:16).
bUt.. Why DO u NeEd SoMe ProoFs??... iF u HaVe this... FAITH!
cottoncandy, how can you have faith if you don't know the truth? I hope people like you dont represent Christian faith. Many Catholics don't know the truth in their beliefs, they just believe because they have faith. Now that, I do not understand, and that I say is shallow.
I respect your views and every other religion's point of views ....Originally Posted by Miryam Dipinsor Sanyajo
