I was watching the news last night and I just could not accept those questions during the ambush interviews to the effect that these journalists are asking too many absurd questions to the chief negotiator. Could they rather think of the news they are disseminating to the people? Until now, I could only see that they are waiting for scoops and not necessarily for the safety of the kidnap victims.

I really hope this will be resolved positively. Maybe if the media people help the government by not insinuating too much, the kidnap victims will be released soon.

ABS-CBN not deserting crew, insists it won't pay ransom

MANILA, Philippines - Television network ABS-CBN on Monday denied that it has abandoned its employees, broadcast journalist Cecilia Victoria "Ces" Oreña-Drilon and cameraman Jimmy Encarnacion, who were abducted by Abu Sayyaf last June 8.

In a statement, ABS-CBN maintained it is "doing everything it can" to assist in the release of Drilon and Ecarnacion who remain captives of the Abu Sayyaf along with Mindanao university professor Octavio Dinampo.

"We are deeply saddened and troubled by accusations that ABS CBN has abandoned Ces and Jimmy. ABS CBN is doing everything it can to help them and their families through this harrowing ordeal," ABS-CBN said in a statement.

However, the television network said it will abide its policy not to pay ransom to facilitate the captives' release.

"ABS CBN will abide by its policy not to pay ransom because this would embolden kidnap for ransom groups to abduct other journalists, putting more lives at risk," the television network stated.

In an interview with radio dzBB earlier in the day, Indanan town mayor Alvarez Isnaji said Drilon herself was crying the last time he talked to her.

"Iyak nang iyak nga siya, sabi niya bakit siya pinabayaan doon sa bundok. Ang nanay at pamilya walang wala, meron siyang anak apat walang mapakain doon (She was crying and saying why she was abandoned in the mountains. She said her family had no money but she has four children to feed)," Isnaji said.

Isnaji said he has not established communications with ABS-CBN or its officials in Sulu or in Zamboanga City. "Walang kontak, never, negative (We have not established communications at all)," he said.

He also cited "unverified" reports that Drilon's mother was "very sick" because of worry. He said some of the reports even indicated she suffered a stroke.

Isnaji said the Abu Sayyaf members who abducted the ABS-CBN news team and professor Dinampo last week are now communicating directly with her family, noting that his role had been reduced to a "runner" or "courier" of the supposed ransom to be paid for Drilon.

"Sabi nila, to my face, hindi, wala na, meron kaming agreement sa pamilya, sorry (They told me to my face, don't make any demands because we have an agreement with Drilon's family. Sorry)," Isnaji said.

On the other hand, Isnaji said he had talked to Drilon's siblings and they were crying because they had no money to pay the ransom. - GMANews.TV

Mao nay giingon nga pasensya nalang kay kay imo man gud tinuyu-an.

i just dunno how u got that kind of information that the owners of ASG ang naa sa pwesto...i think that's totally absurd.

    here are some facts:

"The ASG began in 1992, organized by a few Islamic hard-liners & religious leaders w/ just one 30-cal machine gun & 4 assault rifles on Basilan island. at its peak in yr 2000, the group has amassed about 3,000 members. Currently, with a number of their leaders and members being killed or captured, this group is now experiencing hard times coz financial support is getting hard to come by and security is tight.

PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT: The abduction of Ces & her crew in Sulu by suspected Moro bandits. Some observers say the kidnapping would not have happened had the news managers of ABS-CBN been more concerned with the safety of their people than getting scoops. The same attitude was obvious in the Manila Penn standoff where media people refused to vacate the hotel even if gov't troops were poised to flush out the coup plotters holed up there." --- Sun.Star daily, 6/15/08
