Baddog, if the competition is without body armor (of course w/ headgear) like in the ARPI rules, the sticks used are paded. Since it is paded, the wooden part of the stick is very small and it bends easily. Quick abanico strikes cannot be properly executed. With the WEKAF style, the sticks are not paded so you can have as many variation of strikes as you want. The disadvantage is on the mobility and the heat it imposes on your body.

I think one of the best rules arnis in SEA Games is to use "noddle sticks" - padded ba nga at least sukod sa imong tudlo ang naa sa sulod sa padded stick unya second is point system instead of pinatyanay hangtud dili na makabangon ang oppponent.

Kamikaze = point taken. I guess we all have lessons to learn.

mojo-jo, ma o ba. naka kupot naman ko ug stick sa arnis nga gibalot ug pad, medyo humok gyud nya way sakit. Well, kung unsa man gani ang gamitun, wana tay mahimo ana, adopt nalang gyud ta kung unsa man galing. kung usa ko ka player sa arnis, personaly mag prepare gyud ko sa duha, with armor or with out armor. Para at least kung unsa man ang gamitun, preparado naka da-an....

baddog, when you do abanico with the paded sticks, you will notice how pliant it is that it slows down your timing of strikes. this is what i don't like with paded sticks or "noodle" sticks. that aside, sakit gyapon kaayo pag ma igo ka maski paded. daghan na natumba og nabunol ani sa tournament tungod sa kakusog sa hampas. i prefer to use the real stick because of the feel but it's good to practice different rules if you really want to compete. Ang ato technology sa body armor or sparring weapon kailangan pa jud idevelop if we want a more realistic but safe competition. nindot i-explore ang mga alternate materials and design for armor nga light unya dili init. or if ang sticks i-modify, kato material para sa sticks na paded pero kato pud dli dali lang mu flex. dito sa manila they thought of using the head gear kato gani pareho sa karate na murag fiber glass ang face cover. pero delikado kay wala protection sa ears dapit.
kamikaze, i'm not sure if it is termed as right of way like fencing pero there is this proper form or delivery which will be considered a point para sa judges. Bati lagi kay naay uban na daghan na kaayo ug na igo pero wala ma hatagan ug point. mas lisud kung nasagulan ug politica. hehe.

mojo jo: as of now wa pa gyud kuy nagamit ana, just because bag o pa ka ayo ko sa arnis, ganahan unta ko mo apil ug tournament, atat na ka ayo ko, pero tingalig dili mo sugot si pauwiks because wapaman gud mo up ako level, he he he he. WAman gani ko kabalo if unsa ka bug at ang armor. hope pauwiks will let me, if na ay tournament diri sa cebu.
