religion is like food....its or choice..
exactly , it is our choice ! it's purpose is to nourish your body , but there are food that harms your body as well .Â*Originally Posted by naomi6000
using the food analogy , there is good food and bad food. it's my choice to eat junk foods the whole day. but let's say , to somebody who doesnt know which is harmful to the body they can eat what they want , and you can't blame them , ' they did't know it was bad anyway' ... but to those who have been told ? what about them ?
who says which foodÂ* is bad ? the doctors , our parents, teachers ? see, there is still somebody that tells us which food is bad or good , which one to eat or not to eat . then again u have the choice , but from this line of thought we can see that you can either choose good food or bad food but it is already a given that there is good and bad food.
...still.Who exactly is to say what source is credible or not? none. nada... except one's Faith.
White Oleander,
Yes you are correct NOT necessarily a household but it is essentially a community. That's why the apostles called it the "holy catholic church". I don't know if you believe in the same way but I believe that we are part of the church in the person of the apostles and the prophets, with Christ himself holding it firm as the chief cornerstone 1 if we believe in the message of the apostles and the prophets which is compiled into what is now called The Bible. No one who is mature in the faith has the right to disown anyone who is baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. And no one can claim sole proprietorship to the Holy Spirit, because He is their Lord and ours.
God doesn't leave us in darkness on how to live righteously. Even before the Bible was compiled Paul said his epistles contained enough or just enough information for the people in the churches to be saved. 2 and Isaiah affirms that the Book of the Lord is complete, and NOTHING is lacking in it. 3By 170 A.D., there was already decisiveness as to what was inspired and what wasn't because of God's divine providence.

The Authority of Peter
Peter had the most active ministryÂ* (Acts 2) with the "keys of heaven" (The Good News) he won the hearts of many Jews, gentiles and unbelievers to Christ. Jesus does not have to change our name just as he did Peter, but we are also called to change out former self (Eph 4: 22-24), to a renewed mind (Rom 12:1, 2). And we are also the rocks or "Living Stones" coming to Christ The Living Stone - rejected by men but is in fact the Cornerstone. (1 Pet. 2: 4, 5) and The Rock (1 Cor. 10: 4), our spiritual foundation. No one can lay another foundation other than the one that has already been laid, (1 Cor. 3: 11) Peter did NOT unloose his authority, unlike Judas who from Luke we learn was replaced not of his death, but of his wickedness, (Acts 1: 15 - 26) Peter addressed to him a curse for wicked men May another take his office. (Ps. 109: 8 ) Peter was not accursed, and his authority now is no less than it was then it cannot be removed or replaced.
And indeed Peter, like many of God's servant suffered a violent death and had himself crucified upside-down because he felt "unworthy of being crucified in the same manner as the Lord." Only John escaped a violent death.
But today, the apostles continue to wield authority over the universal church of God through the pages of the Bible, God's Word is the standard on whom we should judge, 1because judging by human standards 2 is most unreliable and by that we are prone to deception and rampant heresy.

i mentioned that "now i believe in an omni-potent being" which if we base on the definition makes me a non-agnostic. FYI
i believe in god but i don't believe in the church as an establishment and as a system. and i don't believe in the christian tradition of obsolete rituals and obvious hypocrisy.
You mean you don't believe in the church's teachings? or to make it clear, the Roman Catholic Church's Catechism?Originally Posted by shoeless_rebel

Because whether St. Peter's Basilica exists or not, the church still exists. As the church refers to those People of God
who share the same belief in Christ and are in communion with Him whatever religion they may be associated with.
Probably, you belong to the same Church.

What if a person does not believe in Jesus but believes in a God?Because whether St. Peter's Basilica exists or not, the church still exists. As the church refers to those People of God
