our elementary and high school curriculum in the Philippines is SOOOOOOOOOOO outdated! in our neighboring countries in SEA... Algebra and Trigonometry are already taught in elementary.

in their high school years.. calculus is already taught.. and they study chemistry and Physics since first year high school up to 4th year highschool.

no wonder our neighboring countries win GOLD MEDALS in the world math, world physics and world chemistry championship kay very intensive ilang pagtudlo aning mga subjects from elementary to highschool.

some neighboring countries of hours even teach robotics and computer programming during high schools. sa ating elementary and highschool public schools... walang changes ang curriculum ano! sa panahon pa ata yan ni lapu-lapu.. hehehehe

In CCNSHS we encountered Differential and Integral Calculus while in 3rd Yr. and 4th Yr .. Algebra in 2nd year ... etc. Its really just a matter of upgrading the curriculum. Filipino is still essential ... just like any other subjects ... it also needs to be upgraded.

Now, will the quality of education improve if we abolish filipino subjects? Will it make our education more "modern"? I don't think so. Once again, we're barking at the wrong tree and give the wrong solutions.

Abolition of useless subjects such as Filipino (Tagalog) isn’t a total and absolute solution but a SINE QUA NON for modernization efforts to take place. Its like weeding out weeds in a fertile soil first before planning a good harvest. Now that you typed the topic under discussion, couldn’t you tell your wanking hand that the title does not actually suggest itself as the ONLY total solution?

In modernizing education, there are so many factors to mull over but it all redounds to maximizing RESOURCES and TIME. Some other guy mentioned radical upgrade of textbooks and subject contents, as well as improving teachers’ pay and the like. I didn’t object because it’s reasonable. But I still have to maintain that modernization will never be achieved if RESOURCES and TIME are somewhat diluted by obsolete materials, obsolete in the context of formal education.

Nobody said that we should stop learning other dialects ilabi na tagalog, pero kinahanglan pa ba gyud diay na bayran sa unibersidad? We can master the language just by watching TV, imposible nga di ka makat-on tagalog nga hasta ang paboritong Mexicans ug Koreano mag tagalog na man gani. Bahalag dili kayo perfect ang balarila ug retorika, ngano aduna diay multa kun masipyat? Or if ma-perfect imo tagalog nga lawom pa sa taga Maynila, naa pod diay premyo? Even mga tagalog di gani perpekto ang grammar, because there is really no need for it to be perfect amidst the emerging trend in the production and exchange.

To be modern is to be pragmatic.

Gusto lang nako ipaabot sa imoha dong nga wa gyud effect sa akoa ang pag-balik2x nimo nga nahagbong ko sa subject. And to even excite your fondness for gossips, ang detalye gyud ana is 3rd year highschool ko nahagbong sa Filipino sa 3rd grading period, not because wala ko’y interest magtuon sa useless subject but tungod lang gyud sa wala nako pag-apil sa PANDANGGO SA ILAW nga sayaw, hehehe.

Ayaw na ipugos as my underlying motives behind a very valid point kay subo kayo nga palandungon nga daghan kaayong bright nga iSTORYANs ang nituo nimo, bad luck. Ok ra unta kung psycho-analyst ka, then mo-agree pod gamay ako subconscious mind sa imo analysis ba. Pero unsaon nga bisag lama lang sa kamatuoran wala man gyud mutakdo sa imong post.

I still have to credit you though for not postulating a paranoid findings nga bunga ning tanan sa XENOPHOBIA.-LOLZ

Instead of focusing on abolishing filipino in the curriculum, we should be more concerned about improving the quality of our education and the facilities of schools, especially the public ones.

To be modern is to be practical, true. But being practical won't bring us far either, we should set the right priorities.

BTW. Read back the title, it suggests that it's the ONLY solution.

It has been a number of years already since we moved towards the computer age and yet we're still stuck in the subjects in school taught during the time of our grandparents and parents. There are even a lot of teachers in public schools doesn't even know how to use a computer..

But I don't think that there's really a need for it to be abolished. Give it less priority lang siguro, kung sa college pa, minor subject na lang and not give it much emphasis lang gyud. Put it in the ranks of PE.
