Or is it that the word "anime" is so popular these days that it has become the preferred abbreviation for the word "animation"?Originally Posted by mr_kyme
Also, the word "original", I think, is inappropriate when one simply refers to preferred art styles. Maybe the word "different" should be used instead. I, for one, find the word "original" problematic when describing an art style that's clearly influence by other styles. Call me a "purist", if you will, but I think "original" should be limited to the fact that one performed a work of art all by one's self, sans influences, advice and the like.
Thank you.
Peace.

I think that success is a result of synergy and market acceptance. I work in QA and I know that quality inputs to a quality process = quality outputs. An aspiring manga-ka or comic book artist or whatever read good comics, read comic book reviews, read or watch instructions from successful artists and then of course apply his or her processes to create a product. The uniqueness of the product is the result of either deliberately researching your target audience before you started working or it just hit you and people just got hooked for one reason or another (serendipity). Take for example, Avatar - The Last Airbender. There's nothing totally unique about it (The scene where the Indian Guru warned Ang about not being able to enter into his Avatar state consciously reminded me of the scene in The Empire Strikes Back where Yoda warned Luke about rushing to face Vader without finishing his training) but the two creators mixed the right ingredients from different sources and made a series that a lot of people seem to like, usa na ko. In fact, there are talks that a live-action trilogy will be made.
