    ^way to go, luthienne!

ang pinaka FREE nga gift idea nga akong nabasahan kay kani:

Gift Certificates a.k.a Labor of Love

how does it work? you make/print out your own gift certificates with claimable services such as:
    - one-hour massage
    - storytelling session
    - laundy (fold and press hehe)
    - babysitting
    - make up and hairdo
    - manicure / pedicure
    - etc.

i haven't tried this one yet. tell me if you're thinking of doing this.

^^ that is a nice one...plus personalized pa....ako i usually make my own gifts...kato uso ayo ang cross stitch to the max...i made really big ones for my siblings....i am proud to say nga if adto mo sa balay sa ako brothers, sisters, parents-in-law....naka display jud ang ako works of art he he he....( i do not know though if proud ba sad sila he he he)....

also for friends..and officemates...ka sulay ko pick up nice shaped stones....gi hugasan nako ug ayo...then gi paint tan ...animal faces or whatever i thought suited them...then mao ila gi paper weight sa office...

one christmas i also made beaded book thongs...mora thread lang ba with beads at the ends...so book marker tahay to siya...you insert it to the page you are currently reading then mag bitay ang beaded ends...nice sad to...then sayon pa.

there are a lot of things nga not necessarily expensive...pero depende man gud na sa recipients if mo appreciate ba sila simple but heartily given gifts...generally man gud ang uban nahan jud ug commercialized gifts...

did the baking thing one christmas too....time consuming but it was rewarding experience...

    dumpster diving, anyone?

mao man siguro ni gipangbuhat aning mga "freegans"...mangaykay ug garbage bins. take note, not all are poor and homeless. for some who join this yearly thing, it's to express political and social beliefs.

well ive tried this in a way. last week i sorted through my mother's "packed stuff" ,a.k.a. ighahatag/iglalabay kay gipang-abog na, and got myself a shoe rack, a lampshade, some clothes, rags, etc. Another time also, I cleaned this bodega corner of a rented place and pulled out chairs, pails and dippers, even a pair of sneakers.

we might never become dumpster divers or mangangaykay ug basura, but we can ask friends and relatives for their unused stuff. i believe we'll be in for a surprise -- people discard a lot, and if we jsut ask around for those stuff, we'd not part with our hard-earned cash for brand-new things.

let me go ahead try this one out. im asking people i know if they have stuff to throw away. will update this thread of my finds.

(by the way, i have so many books either to give away or to sell...but of course the latter is better=))

so far, i have pledges for:
    1. christmas lights
    2. shoes and clothes

i don't know what to do with these...but i like the thought of creating a freecycle.org kind of thing.

okay. from my end, i did a nice thing today. i cleaned up my own closet and got all the stuff i haven't used or don't use anymore. so i got the following:

    1. cosmetics - 1 bottle of liquid foundation, 2 lipsticks, 2 eyeliners, 1 stick concealer, 1 blush-on brush, 1 eyebrow shaver, 1 eyeliner sharpener

    2. toiletries - 2 pcs loofah, 1 pack cotton balls, half a pack of powder detergent, small bottle of perfume, facial cleanser, small plastic basin

    3. office supplies - notebook binder, notebook refills, post-its, masking tape

    4. others - half a bottle of liquid leather/plastic/rubber cleaner, 3 pairs of fancy earrings

took all these to my neighbor who liked the stuff, and asked them to make an offer, kanang price nga bargain kaayuuuuuuuuuuu. they said P500.00 kuno ilang mga afford. oh well, normally i would just give these items away anyway, so i said...P100.00 ra na tanan! take it, take it! (most of the items are nice brands ha...Avon, Tom Hilfinger, Elizabeth Arden...)

the ending was, they were happy with the good buy, and i was happy to have disposed of things i didn't use--things that would just gather dust in my closet. it's such a nice thing to give unused items a new life, isn't it?

this frugality thing gives me a different kind of high....

I discovered something new. I cook with brown rice now, instead of white. I steered clear of brown rice before because it costs twice what white rice costs, pero twice man pud iya tubo. So it comes out the same, plus it's healthier.

Its not really being frugal because the end cost is the same. But I get more value for my money's worth, diba?
