In 1998, the Philippine economy deteriorated as a result of

spill-over from the Asian financial crisis and poor weather

    conditions.
Growth fell to about -0.5% in 1998 from 5% in 1997, but

recovered to 2.9% by 1999. President Estrada tried to resist

protectionist measures; and efforts to continue the reforms begun by the

    Ramos administration made significant progress.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_the_Philippines

A review of the economic and financial developments in 1999

showed that the Philippine economy continued to display good

macroeconomic performance in 1999, a turnaround from the economic

slowdown which followed the 1997 crisis. These developments are

contained in the 1999 annual report of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas

submitted last Friday, 31 March 2000, to the President, the Senate

President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives. The BSP

annual report mandated by the BSP charter of 1993, is now available in

    the BSP website www.bsp.gov.ph
    http://www.bsp.gov.ph/archive/News_2...s-04032000.htm

I tried to research on the economic conditions of the country before impeachment proceedings... Ako gi tan-aw ang year 1999 kay mao ni nga year wala pa ang impeachment og si ERAP ra ang ga handle the whole year. And contrary to claims that the economy is bad during ERAP's time mura dili man lagi. It even showed that it was doing good.

yup cant CORY just pray somewhere else ? can we just speak when we want too ? can we remind them that 3M people speaking up in behalf of 64M people is not yet approved ?

correct me if im wrong .. is the root word of OPPOSITION = opposite ? so what ever GMA do , bad or good , those people will ALWAYS be opposite ? funny isnt it , but it seems to be getting very real everyday ..

THOSE poeple are not ANTI-GMA , rather they are ANTI-PRESIDENT , right ? dont you noticed that , since marcos , cory , ramos , erap , gloria ?

they are anti-PRESIDENT , so how can they convince NOLI de castro to join them ? NOLI would say . HEY am i stupid ? NOLI will be the next president if ever GMA go down , since they are ANTI-PRESIDENT NOLI would be expecting THE SAME thing as the rest of the president did .

I SAY , those people should be giving away their money to poor people so that in a way they will be a helpful group to this country and leave us ( those who are educated , professional , not poor ) to speak for ourselves .. hahay ninyong tanan!

Honestly I do not like GMA myself! From the time she promised not to run and breaking that promise shows unreliability on her part and after that seems to be a whirlwind of scandals including this tribune and 1017 thing!

But we have to look on both sides of the coin people! and look on all angles and not be blinded by hate or love of one person view or opinion.

    Questions/Angles to be looked upon:

1.) Who will replace GMA if she is ousted? (remember we got this leader in the same manner we are trying to get rid of her! We would be too dumb to make the same mistake twice!)
-In the middle of panic heat and turmoil the decision making of people suffer dont you agree?.... for me the election is near let us wait for it.

2.) Who are joining the oust-GMA rallies in the first place?
-Rallies and protest are one of the highest grades of expressions of opinions and beliefs. I have personally seen what type of people are "mostly" joining such rallies and one thing for sure is the are NOT TAX PAYERS. What do they have to lose? What do they have to sacrifice? If I can see employees from the buildings of Makati coming down from their cubicles and joining hand in hand against a leader then that would be the time that I would say "Mao na gyud ni! Sobra na! Time for change!" like what happened to EDSA two. Until such time comes I consider myself a passerby and dont give a crap about politics.

3.) How many are joining the rallies?
-On TV they seem to be quite a lot don't they? Try for once going to manila and you will see that this is a mere exaggeration. It cannot even come close of half the nuber of people of EDSA one...

4.)Where are you getting your info?
-Try watching and comparing the TV networks ABS CBN and GMA7 and you will see that there is bias on ABS hence the wowowie case...

5.)Why do we have a leader in the first place and are we close to being a dictatorship or a communist country?
-To make educated and confusing decisions that not everyone would be glad to handle. GMA is our leader for now and I personally would want to see what is up her sleeve and would not want to walk out on her before the show is even done considering the foriegn investments we are recieving (foriegn investors loath communism and dictatorship and we dont have the number of people like china to nullify this).

These are some of the angles that the topic starter failed to see...

Anyways we are bound to our own opinions and beliefs so good luck and God Bless!

I'm also a middle class Filipino... and i'm not also in the streets. I don't know if I belong to the silent majority nor I will claim that I belong to them... All I know is that even if I'm just a minority I'm still entitled to a government office who is credible and accountable. So I demand that Mrs. Arroyo must answer the allegations against her. The way congress scrapped the impeachment bid against her is not enough to prove her innocence. Because I know how those congressman work and I can see a clear manifestation that cheating indeed happen and the GMA-Garci conversation is true.Â*

Mrs. Arroyo we all know that cheating needs a lot of money, where did you get all those money? How much money did you spend in your cheating machinery?Â* Was is it one of the reasons why we have experienced a fiscal crisis right after 2004 elections? That you have used almost all the government funds for your re-election?Â* We are not part of you KAMPI party, so you have no right to use public funds for your re-election. How much money was given to each person who participated in the cheating operation? Was it from your own pocket? or from our hard earned tax?

Let me point some things that made me believe that all of the allegations are true.

Mrs Arroyo why did you appoint Garci in the first place?Â* Was it because of his credible track record? But why your allies at that time even protested the appointment of such person?

The ferlizer funds from DAR were released just months before the 2004 elections.Â* And the report showed that it was even released to places where there were no agricultural lands. And now Jocjoc Bolante who was the main man at that time is hiding from investigation.

Mr. Bunye why did lie when you presented your orig version? Do you expect the people to accept your statements without listening to the versions you presented?Â* And after listening to it, it was very clear that your supposed orig version is the clear fake.

Mr. Chavit Singson what's your point in presenting the X-tape, just like the version of Bunye, it was very clear that it was manufactured.

Mr. Defensor why do you have to change the findings of the US expert you consulted? And claiming that the conversations are fake? When in fact he haven't said that?

The actions of these three individuals are clear lies, and lying is not a good solution to solve the crisis.

So stop the lame excuse of "WHO DOESN'T CHEAT", that those persons who want you to be accountable are "DESTABILIZERS" and "TROUBLEMAKERS". Because if you (GMA) haven't called Garci in the first place our country would not be experiencing what we are experiencing right now.

Because I believe if the sides where swapped and those PRO-ARROYO officials are the current opposition.Â* This people will not stop until the person who committed this crime accountable and made to answer all the charges.Â* So stop pointing who the hypocrites are, because all I know you are all hypocrites.

I know this opposition figures (ERAP, Lacson et al.) have a share of being dishonest and also not worthy to be a leader. But I also know my constitution, that if ever a president will be ousted it is the VP who will take-over.Â* Just like what happen during EDSA II. Don't you trust you VP or you have also used him as your prop in making him a "scare crow".

Sorry I have no respect for you (GMA), just like those other opposition figures. And i'm not even gonna give you the respect due to a president. Because what you did during May 2004 is not worth respecting.Â* You want to earn it? prove you did not cheat... prove that the conversation did not happen. Respect is not freely given it is earned.
ako lang ibilin ang akong view/opinions and sentiments with regards to the crisis...

    nuff said... observer mode.

i'm not blinded by love for GMA. i even hated her for running again when she said she won't. i cannot also categorically say that she did not cheat las elections but probably fate and destiny gyud ni ngano siya gihapon na presidente.

it's between the devil (opposition) and the deep blue sea (GMA). i'll take my chances with the latter.

Huh? The conspirators (oppositions) junked the impeachment? I have two words for you "PROVE IT!". Isnt it your friendly neighborhood administration "Tongressmen" who out-voted the oppositions to junk it? I think you are having amnesia my friend.
i am not going to glorify your line of thinking. but to answer it YES! by not pushing the issue anymore because they know where it was heading, right at the back of their heads.
