Bryant works steadily to build Kobe dynasty in China
By Mike Penner
July 1, 2009
According to the Wall Street Journal, Bryant has waged a 'deliberate campaign' to make inroads in the world's most populous country, including visits and charity work.
Having conquered the NBA, Kobe Bryant has set his sights east, to the Far East -- China.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Bryant in recent years has waged a "deliberate campaign" to make inroads in the world's most populous country. That includes annual visits to China -- he has a trip planned in late July -- and the creation of the Kobe Bryant China Fund, a charity backed by the Chinese government designed to raise money for education and health programs.
Bryant is already immensely popular in China, where he sells more replica jerseys than Yao Ming. Terry Rhoads, the American managing director of Zou Marketing, says Bryant seems to have a sense of how to navigate in the country.
"Chinese fans adore Kobe on the court, but they also want to see affection for Chinese culture and people," Rhoads said. "The more time he spends in China, the more he will endear himself to millions of basketball-loving Chinese."
Bryant was honored as a "global ambassador" by the Asia Society of Southern California on Tuesday night at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Words from a wise fan
As I was reading several sites about the Artest Trade I stumbled across this... offcourse like threads here or everywhere else, u had the usual negative and positive comments but this made sense Why Artest could help the Lakers repeat ..
And I quote
"I can't believe there are Laker fans on here questioning this move. Do you guys even watch basketball, or have you not seen enough because Houston plays out of town games. What I have noticed is all of the serious Laker and basketball fans know that this move put the rest of the league on notice. So I put together 10 reasons why this Ron Artest signing is great for L.A.: Number 1: Ron Artest is better than Trevor Ariza, (I love Trev, but he's not on Ron's level yet) 2. Ron is strong enough and is a lockdown defender 3. Ron lengthens Kobe's career because he now will guard the other team's number 1 scoring option 4. Ron is an enforcer and with him, Lakers can now officially shed the SOFT label 5. Ron can guard multiple positions 6. Ron wants to win 7. Ron becomes our number 3 scoring option taking less pressure off of Odom 8. Ron does a lot for the community (look it up, he donates lots of money and time to the community) 9. Ron was the 2004 Defensive Player of the Year 10. For all of the haters: Ron is no longer out of control, if Phil can handle Dennis Rodman (an even bigger whack job than Ron) then Ron will be no problem...2010 World Champion Lakers. This move actually makes us better than our championship team".
