Nope.. its not an anti-air but it can take down low flying aircraft probably 100 meters... it was used by the Mujahideens against the Soviet's helos but not really effective till they acquire the Stinger missiles.
If you follow the Chechen War 1 & 2, RPG was very effective destroying Russian tank columns.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but never in the history of the Philippine Air Force has a Huey been hit by an "RPG" or some other form of missile/rocket, guided or unguided. I believe most PAF Huey crashes or crash-landings / emergency landings are either due to small arms fire or malfunction. Which kinda makes you wonder why some people think RPGs are a "threat" to choppers in our locality.

From wikipedia:
"A rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) is any hand-held, shoulder-launched anti-tank weapons capable of firing an unguided rocket equipped with an explosive warhead".
Rocket-propelled grenade - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
To say an RPG is a grenade (because its name says it is) is not entirely correct. This is because, as the wikipedia entry states further down:
"RPG is a transliteration of РПГ, the Russian abbreviation of ручной противотанковый гранатомёт (transliterated as "ruchnoy protivotankoviy granatomyot"), which translates to the English phrase "hand-held anti-tank grenade launcher". Thus rocket-propelled grenade is a backronym."
Backronym diay ang RPG. In other words, "RPG" was an original Russian abbreviation and the English words were filled in to fit. It is not, therefore, literally a grenade in the anti-personnel sense but as SiQ says, a shaped charge best used against armor.
Soviet RPGs were derived from both the bazooka and the German panzerfaust, both anti-tank weapons in World War II.
The UH-60s brought down in Somalia (the real life "Blackhawk Down" not the movie, ha?) were hit by insurgents using RPG-7s modified to fire upwards at low-flying helicopters. They are extremely inaccurate in that role. You can bet the guys who hit those Blackhawks were either very good or very very lucky.
Even if the local insurgents or bandits used RPGs as anti-aircraft weapons (and there is no evidence they ever have), a slight change in tactics would easily defeat them.

no need to go that far, all they need is to cluster their camp/base.. now back to topic, if the PAF is required to get cobras, they should get the marine version...(ass end looks better) my 1st choice is the F-16's (2 seater-wso in the back).. so many of them sitting on the bone yard, maybe PAF can negotiate with uncle sam for 'foreign friendly country military assistance'.. A-10's, take out the 30mm (they are not shooting at tanks or apc or hardened bunker) sling 2 or 4 gun pods with small caliber..even smaller than the 20mm.. 2 or 4 cluster bombs.. maybe some precision guided bombs if needed..
well for me I'd rather suggest buying new AC-130 Gunship and retro fitting our current C-130's, make it into an AC-130 Gunship. the AC-130 Gunship has 25mm Vulcan Cannons, 40mm Cannon and a 105mm Howitzer Cannon. and very untouchable unless the enemy uses guided surface to air missiles and airplanes.
the is the link for the AC-130 Gunship.
