Fusion nalang tawn ilang pag-laum... if they make it that far...

I'll probably skip the Phenom nila... probably the worst part of the whole story aside from the TLB issue is the incompatibility of Phenom chips to existing AM2 sockets... that really ticked me off.

I dont think purchasing Ati was any excuse for them to perform so poorly... its like one blunder after another....

Its always been Delays, More Delays, False Promises, Lack of Performance, TLB errors, More TLB errors.. Socket Incompatibilities, Low Yield Fabs resulting in Crazy Tri-Core ideas, High TDP and low performance per watt.

ATI side is a little better but still they had the chance to get one up on Nvidia with the 8600 series but they released their equally crappy HD 2600.. then there was the 2900XT which needed a nuclear power plant to operate. The 2900pro to salvage the whole thing and now.. .luckily for Ati.. the 3850 / 3870.. by then Nvidia came out with 8800GT so they missed their chance. 3850 is the only card where they have a real advantage... until the NVidia 9600 comes out.

yeah 2900XT is full of crap...

i guess if AMD purchase nvidia.... hmmm i guess it would have been nice...

i remember when Nvidia nForce Series put AMD king of the Hill...

yeah there goes the anti-trust case.. yada yada yada.....

theres no word to explain but DELAYS...

i guess the MOST STUPID thing that AMD think is when they released

4X4 aka QuadFX when it tried to go againts Intels C2Q's

it really suckz hands down.. motherboard that supports it is expensive..

    and yes its very hot..

well it was really an act of desperation by AMD.. got starstruck by C2Q..

    hehehehe...

Intel had its fare share of desperate moments also...

Prior to C2D there was the Pentium EE ... or Extreme (Emergency) Edition

They were also saying the Core 2 Quad was stupid cos it was just 2 Core 2 Duos slapped together.. but Intel managed to pull it off.. and despite AMD saying that Phenom is native quad core... people didnt care anymore... the benchmarks spoke for themselves and AMD was stumbling on its own feet getting their darn phenom working.... they couldve just connected 2 Athlon X2's together instead of doing the Quad FX thing.

Yes there are some news that Phenom is not compatible with AM2 socket motherboard.

You can check this one out:
    http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/12/...rds/page3.html

    the question is
why would anybody wanna use Phenom on an AM2 motherboard. When there is a motherboard and chipset built natively for Phenom which is the AM2+.

toms hardware obviously making a big deal about this and obviously is under Intels pockets.
    All im saying is
Naturally if you use sockets that are not made for that processor it will not work. In a narrow minded intel fanboy Try using LgA775 socket processors if its compatible with socket 478.

TOms Hardware is either an Intel fanboy or they are inside Intels pockets. Incompatibility with a non compatible motherboard is not an issue.

Haven't you heard of a long story or a proper explenation.

I just realized something.... at the price they're selling the Athlon X2's it woulve been more sensible to follow Intel's C2Q approach to combine 2 dual cores... then theyd still be able to sell the chips for the same price or a bit higher than the Core 2 Duo.

That would put their quad core cpu's pricing on par with Intel's dual core cpu.. this wouldve given them enough sales to realease their Native Quad core properly

I was planning to do just that.... I bought a Shuttle SN27P2 and settled for an X2 3600+. I planned to hold out till the drop in replacement Phenom... AMD said that Phenom (AM2+) would be backward compatible with ALL existing socket AM2.... well It turns out that its not so with most boards including mine. That screwed up my upgrade path big time...

A lot of enthusiasts were eyeing Phenom as an upgrade processor for their aging X2 systems.... and how does AMD reward thos people who didnt go for C2D? They release a processor that doesnt work with their existing systems...

At least the newer Pentium 4's using LGA775 were able to upgrade to Core 2 Duo.

The thing is... AMD designed the Phenom to be compatible with existing AM2 sockets... good intentions... terrible execution...
