rochelle,
TY for the PM, sorry couldn't reply as I don't have that feature yet...
calcium if not balanced with other minerals such as phosphurus nd stuff, is not good for your dogs... especially large breed dogs, it could lead to bone disorders... jst buy dog food specifically designed for a large breed...

I fully agree with your point......But for pregnant Bitch, Vets usually recommend that we give Puppy Food for Small Breeds, because of the much higher protein content (among other things) which the Brood Bitch needs (during gestation and lactating period).
@ Kenart
As for the calcium supplement for a pregnant dog-- I give KAWU (calcium with phosphorous), one or two weeks before scheduled whelping time (this way we can prevent if not eliminate Milk Fever in Dams, as a result of "oversupplementing" calcium - perhaps it was given too early without the proper proportion (1:1 - calcium and phosphorous).
The safest way to give calcium to your dog is through milk and cheese.
I have to agree that milk and cheese are good sources of calcium.......safest way..hmmm...are you saying that giving tabs (intended for doggies) is unsafe? kindly elaborateOriginally Posted by mikki_027
, thanks
Nop, giving tablets intended for dogs is also safe as long as they are of proper dosage. But to those who doubt about the safety in giving tabs, use milk and cheese instead.
Ohhh okay ....What is the recommended amount of Cheese or Milk per day for a 30kg, Brood Bitch to meet her calcuim/phosphorous requirement? thanks, NoelleOriginally Posted by mikki_027
