These are the major aspects/ingredients that will produce a good sound:in order
    1.good performance(talented musicians with discipline).
    2.good instruments
    3.good front-end(e.i. mics, pre-amp, etc.)
4.good recording engineer(must know the limits of his equipment)
5.good mixing engineer(must understands the music he is mixing and must have the passion). 50%technical and 50%artist.
    6.good mastering engineer.
    7.Experiment and don't quit.

And, don't rely too much with foriegn engineers because they also have their shortcomings.

    it comes from different sources:

    1. the recording equipment itself. there's something about the acoustics of cebu recording studios, such as backyard and zzubu, that can give one the all-too-familiar "trademark sound." also, almost all the bands who record there use the same equipment, as well as the same style of equipment. So, more likely, it's the same sound more or less.

in other countries, most bands are very particular of their tone. Usually, their producer wants to capture that vibe that makes the band so special. THat's why they use their own gear, which includes amps, drums and whatnot. So these bands, esp. the major label ones, got a particular vibe in them. If you listen to some of their underground bands, you'll realize that we got even better quality out here.

here, bands don't have the privilege of having a producer to help them achieve their sound. we often rely on the sound engineer to make this possible. usually, they often use the tried and tested formula.

    2. Budget. Some bands can't spend all that money on getting a better recording. If you want to tweak your sound, you should spend more time on the studio. and we don't get that really big lunch money to splurge on our recordings.

    3. lack of options. there are only a few good options of getting a good recording here, so the sounds are more or less the same. This also goes the same for manila recording studios. tracks and tower of doom studios have developed their "trademark sounds", but then there are bands who make exceptions and develop their own. It is quite commonplace knowledge that record producers in manila look for that "manila sound" in their bands. Listen to bands like sugarfree, 6cyclemind, bamboo and all those bands. It's quite technical, but they've developed their own settings for those sounds. It's also quite similar here.

The exceptions are as follows:urbandub didn't follow the trademark "tracks studio" sound, since they already have their own idea for their signature sound. This goes out for cheese, chicosci, and valley of chrome of tower of doom studios. they already have their own "timpla", so they don't sound like other bands who record there. But, this kinda takes a lot from the pocket.

    4. Most people don't develop hearing for the finer points in the recording. For example, let's take backyard studios in cebu. Each year they're trying to develop their sound further. If you compare earlier albums by urbandub, ambassadors, sati and others to their newer releases, you will hear the difference immediately. So these guys who are at the helm aren't no slouches, since they're doing their homework.
