core duo & core 2 duo are the intel dual core chips chips (as well as the core 2 quad & core 2 extreme)

but yeah both means they have 2 cores on the same chip

Basically all the processors you have mentioned are all dual core.

core 2 duo is the crown processors for Intel that made them snatch it from AMD.

Core 2 duo simply has entirely different core than the pentium D. And simply core 2 duo is way more emproved, enhanced, way faster and cooled down version over the Pentium D.
AMD on the Other hand has their Athlon 64 x2 currently they still has to release their new processors that will beat intel.
