meh, people make a big deal out of this, when the fact is, US military hardware and budget can run circles around the Chinese. Just look at those jets they have in the pictures found in the link posted, they look like modified F16s ... F16s in the process of being decommissioned by the US military if they haven't been all already ... although I believe the National Guard still use them. Other pictures of other Chinese planes look like designs from the 70s. I just have one thing to say ... F22 Raptor. In simulated dogfights, lone Raptors dominated as many as 5 F15s without breaking a sweat ... and F15s are probably more advanced than what China currently has. China doesn't have stealth ... end of discussion on Chinese airpower. As for the Chinese navy, until they can whip out supercarriers and tot them around, it's a non issue. A large standing army means nothing when you don't have naval and air superiority, not to mention that the army compared to western armies are poorly equipped. This isn't the 17th century when you can win with sheer numbers. With that said though, in the distant future, we may well see China as the second superpower to rival the US ... keyword being distant. They already have nukes, all they need is a means to deliver them ... then they'll be a credible contender to the superpower title. The whole Chinese military for now needs a lot more modernization to even compete in a no holds brawl.

All I know is, when push comes to shove, I'd like to take in some prisoners of war.

    Hehehe ....stripped and tortured ?

BTW ... my last sea duty command was the USS ANCHORAGE LSD 346 , an ampibious ship decommissioned last 2002 ? and was sold to to the Chinese Navy as part for their naval fleet .

No nation , even a 1st world country compares to the US NAVY from SEA , AIR and LAND STRATEGIES and OPS ..... not one even that close , as what VERN said .... END of DISCUSSION .

Well, this is just conventional weapons for conventional wars. Hehehe.

The story completely changes when it comes to unconventional weapons.

Unconventional weapons are trumps card of the US or maybe another superpower country.

Although this would violate some of the laws of war when using such weapons it really won't be much of a detterent for the US to use

such weapons. I heard that israel is using phosphorus in its attacks against its common enemies.

"The International Red Cross is of the opinion that there should be a complete ban on phosphorus being used against human beings and the third protocol of the Geneva Convention on Conventional Weapons restricts the use of “incendiary weapons”, with phosphorus considered to be one such weapon.

Israel and the United States are not signatories to the third protocol. "

And is quite wise on for the US and Israel on their part not to become a member of the ICC(international criminal court).

Well, i mean like, they have the blood of the innocent, so why not? And it sanctions them since they are the chosen people(the israelites).

were talking about potential threat and those song class subs from china are indeed a reason to be concerned, all that vaunted air power of the US does not equate a full nullifying power to the song class subs..one or 2 of them could wreak havoc to a carrier with their Yu-4 torpedos..its the reason hunter killer types are dreaded weapons in the seas just like the US Seawolf types....sure the US carrier fleets and all their modern warjets are really superior to China but the cost of such undertaking like a limited conflict in the South china Sea , casualties on Hard Asset military hardware such as A/C Carrier is now a distinct possibility , unheard of a decade ago due to these Chinese Subs.

Song class Chinese Submarines are nothing compared to the SeaWolf Class. There is only one seawolf class in the entire US Navy, also name SSN 21 Seawolf because it is a very expensive. COngress cut spending. I dont know if the Jimmy Carter and the COnnecticut are still sailing.

For one thing, Chinese Submarines are totally dependent on Russian Technology. The Song Class although Chinese made was based on Russian Sub design, decades ago.

Compare the Yu-4 torpedoes with the ADCAP MK 48, the mainstay torpedo of the US Sub fleet, the difference is very big.

UNless of course, the Chinese are using the much Rumored, VA-111 Shkval, better known to the west as the Squall, which uses super-cavitation technology made by the Russian. I doubt the russians gave this technology to the chinese, but rumor has it, that during the sinking of the Kursk, there were chinese officers inside, and they were suppose to be testing a new type of torpedo. Many believe that it was the debut of the Shkval.
