Why are bands generally habitual late comers?

IAN - sa una sab bitaw bai nga on time man sab gyud kada rehearsal ang mga taw sa Cebu. Katung gamay pa ang jamminganan, lisod kaayo pa reserve kay pirme puno. Kinahanglan gyud tunga ug sayo para dili mapulihan sa reserved nga oras. Kahinumdom ko ngadto sa ilang Tata Umapas nga maglinya ang banda, ug dili kompleto it's either magsugod mog jam or make way sa nag sunod nga banda.

Pero sa mga naay mga kaugalingong praktisanan, di gyud malikayan nga naay ma late. Kompyansa man gud dili man time-restrained. Maka sugod bisag kanus-a, maka undang sab bisag kanus-a ... I actually like this type of scenario, kanang dili ka pressured sa oras - pero ganahan sab ko nga mo tunga tanan sa gisabotan nga oras. Respeto lang sa mga bandmates especially ngadto sa mga de-pamilya nga set-aside ug oras para mo praktis.

Lahi sab gyud nang sa GIG na mismo ma late - mao nay hasol kanang magpa late late. Once and ONLY ONCE na late mi ug gig diri kay nawagtang mi, wala mi katultol sa venue - we got bumped down to last sa lineup kay wala mi katunga. It's our fault and wala mi nagbasol - we were 15 minutes late.

Sa Manila, it's a little different. Even bands that are big in the scene get to play first and it even makes a better impact. Ang logic ana kay the show has to start with a big bang and if you get to play first, it's a privilege hinuon kay that means naay pressure to make a first impression. You can't afford to be late sa Manila kay daghan maayo nga bands pud didto. Maulaw ka kung ma-late ka.

SATI had a good reputation of being on time and we don't mind playing first then even diri sa Cebu - better pa gani makatukar mi ug una so we can watch other bands na dayon.

I hope this topic can help a lot to those bands or band members who are habitual late comers. Sorry if some people are offended pero tinuod gyud nga di maayo ma-late. It's sickening and it's unprofessional.

Ezra, maayo sad na nga paagi kanang ibutang sa last kung ma-late. Kung wa pa tay tao, aw i-treat na lang as praktis inyong gig hahaha... eventually mo-pay off ra man gyud na ang disiplina.

For the promoters, it's really your call kung unsaon ninyo pag-handle sa situation. Perhaps a backup plan should be in place?

we were never late before. and to think we travel a lot. Znai is right. if you want to make an impression out of your performance, you really have to prepare and condition yourself into it. banga sad ang promoter kung ok ra sila ana nga attitude. for me bati gyud ang late.

IAN .. mao gyud bai, mas maayo mag una ug tukar ang banda nga ilado kay at least manunga ug sayo ang mga taw. More popular bands should be spread out sa time slots para ang crowd mo puyo ug mag huwat - and they get to hear these newcomers play. Common practice man gud diha sa ato-a, ang mga sikat sa tunga tunga padung duol sa katapusan unya kini man sab gung mga banda nga nag sugod pa, gusto dayon sila nga ma ilhan dayon and they want good time slots regardless if they deserve it or not.

Kanang mga banda nga na late being bumped to the last slot, maayo mana nga practice - I'd suggest that to promoters.. if dili kompleto ang lineup sa usa ka banda 10 minutes before their scheduled stage time, balhin dayon sa kinatapusan nga slot. Ug di sila manukar - ila na nang problema - they were given a time slot, ila nang responsibilidad nga mo tunga sila on time. Magkatawa lang ko usahay sa kasapot anang uban banda nga ma late.. Late na sila, mag setup pa sa mga gamit, mag tono, uban wala pa gyuy gamit nya manghasol pas uban banda .. etc.. nanubra na sa ilang allowance nga oras para mag setup, ma bumped back na hinuon ang uban banda sa ilang time slot tungod sa kalangayan sa na late na banda.

Mao mao... Nahimo naman gud ng "ugaling Pinoy" ang pagka-late. Kahinumdum pako sauna katung wala pay uso ang celfon kay way hasol. Magsabot ramo mga day/s before na praktis mo or gig then sabot pod sa oras nya mutunga ra sa sakto na oras. Karon neccessity na kaau ang celfon k lisud kaayo dakpon ang mga tao, kinahanglan na ug constant... Hehehe...

Here's a tip on this attitude problem:

1) Let's avoid sporting the concept of "ugaling pinoy" bai. It's like we willingly accept that we are not competent. Remove it from your personal vocabulary. Don't use it. Personally I don't like being labeled as a Pinoy in a negative way and saying "ugaling pinoy" may imply that.

2) We can't change how the whole world sees us but little by little we can change our ways. Let's prove nga "ugaling pinoy" means that we are competent and that we are on time. PBB theme ba? Positive instead of accepting that Pinoys are inferior, prove that Pinoys are better than the rest of the world.

3) If you want your band to be respected, prove the audience and the promoters that you are worth their time to watch by improving your performance rather than thinking about becoming popular fast. Dili ra man kay gigs ra ang makapa-ilahado sa banda. Daghan pang venues like websites, forums, or a personalized mailing list for your band. Something that is tangible to your target audience.

Di man na tinuod ang "Filipino time" kay naa man sad na sa western culture and they call it procrastination. Remove the term from your system. Ana ra gyud.

Agree jud ko ana bai. Tang-tangun unta sa mga fellow Filipinos ang mindset na "ma-late bitaw na sila, magpa-late lang pod ko" / "dili pa bitaw dayun na mag-sugod, unya nalang ko mu-adto" etc. etc. etc.. Mao bitaw naka-daot kay ang pagka-late nahimo na hinuong "ugaling Pinoy" which is very counter-productive.

Tip pud ni bai - don't use that word "ugaling pinoy" na lang bai and it will eventually have a good effect on you trust me... also using the word "problem" such as "Ang problema man gud kay..." creates a sub-conscious negative vibe in you. Instead, let's say "Ang issue man gud..." or "Ang nahitabo man gud..." or "Ang concern lang gud kay..." to give a positive approach in solving things out.

To promoters - wa tay mahimo sa mga late nga banda but naa tay mahimo sa atong paagi unsaon pagsulbad ana nga sitwasyon. Rock 'n' roll should be fun y'know?
