Actually Bluray discs are already out in the market. even the recordable types. Just recently, we bought a couple of single layer and double layer BD discs from a local store here in the Philippines and it costs more than a thousand for one movie.

1k sounds high for one movie. I hope it's 1080p else it would be a waste of capacity.

Its already high definition. Thats why it cant be fully appreciated unless viewed in an HDTV with surround sound.
