If you ride motorcycles and you got genuine cowhide on, you're more protected from abrasions and possibly even low-intensity impact than the next guy wearing only a denim jacket. Granted, it's hot and uncomfy, but anything for safety and the preservation life.

Remember, leather was originally used as armour in the bygone days...sometimes people tend to look more only on the fashionable rather than the practical side of things. If you look back at history and remember all the famous people who were fondly remembered as fans of leather jackets (i.e. James Dean, Elvis Presley, Marlon Brando, among others) you'd realize some of them were actually motorcycle riders.

Rodsky - very true, especially those specialized leather jackets for bikers - reinforced leather ang gamit ... pero ug wala kay bike and you're only wearing it for the looks, mura gyud kag amaw ug mag leather leather kas Pilipinas.

Not in ALL places in the Philippines...if you live in Baguio, or went to school in this place...

(MSU Main campus, Marawi City...general climate is somewhere between Tagaytay and Baguio...always foggy during December-January)

...then a leather jacket is very ideal, esp. between the months of November until February. I spent the Christmas break here visiting my daughter, and I sure wish I had a leather jacket...brrrrr tugnaw kaayo.

In some places and circumstances, yes... very practical. Akong maguwang, he wanted a leather jacket nga magamit sa Pilipinas. I bought him a very thin type/quality leather jacket which he can wear during colder days.

Pero ug sa Cebu lang gamit gamiton, always remember.... your sweat will saturate on leather and that odor won't easily go away.

Here's me with my brown Banana Republic leather jacket ... this is at 40 degrees farenheit weather.. I'm 2nd from left by the way

This is my Ralph Lauren leather jacket... this is for the really cold days. Picture taken in Chicago, December... I'm the one on the left

    Nice pics bro

re odors on leather--I think whether it may be in a place of cold climate or warm climate, you will eventually have to deal with odor of sweat in leather garments. The usual advise is to use saddle soap, the one that is used to clean leather saddles. And btw, another main problem with leather is--leather quality decays over time...panit gud ni sa usa ka animal, and just treated with chemicals to stay preserved, once the chemicals lose their bond, magstart na ug decay ang leather--and thus part of the bad smell you smell in leather jackets is caused by the fact that it decays faster in tropical/warm climates.

I take my leather jackets to the cleaners nga naay leather specialists.. although mahal pero I send it there only after the cold season and before I pack my warm clothes para i-store sa storage. So that's the only time my leather stuff gets washed, once a year ra gyud, hehehehhe. Akong mga jackets, they're insulated so they have other components other than leather so kinahanglan sab gyud labhan. Pero okay ra sab kay I don't use them too often.

As far as the outer shell ... Naa koy mga leather-care products which they recommend when you buy their garments pero I never used them, not even once.
