^^tsk tsk..ridney is ryt..u need a router to connect to a different IP address.
i agree w/ ucav 192.36.252.xxx can ping 192.36.253.xxx using default subnet mask nga 255.255.255.0
pero kung imo na e subnet say /24. dili gyud magkita gawas kung naay router.
ang point is unsaon pagkita sa duha ka network nga maka save ta ba, dli na lng ta palit router unya dagha pa available nga host.
class c man ni sya nga network we can ping ip 192.0.0.1 up to 192.255.255.254 provided nga we are using default subnet mask nga 255.255.255.0 for a class c nga ip address.
subnetting ra naoi! usaba ang imo subnet po aron magkita
I'm wondering what's the difference between /24 and 255.255.255.0 na subnet. Hope you can explain it further d_dearca. No offense intended.
By simple calculation if we use 255.255.255.0, the first network address is 192.168.36.252.0. The second network address is 192.168.36.253.0. These two are different networks. In order for them to communicate with each other, your option is either use a router or a layer 3 switch.
Are u sure that between 192.36.252.xxx and 192.36.253.xxx with subnet mask of /24 or 255.255.255.0 can communicate? No offense bro, but /24(prefix length) and 255.255.255.0(network mask) are the same terms. ANd with regards to the two networks, it is not possible that they can communicate each other not unless you're using router. Servers like windows, linux can route also with other networks. They are only software-based but not built for large internetwork.Originally Posted by d_dearca
sori mga bro ur ryt /24 is thesame as 255.255.255.0
pero wat i mean is,
@ /24 or subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 , 192.36.252.xxx can ping 192.36.252.xxx
kay actually wala man ni ma subnet so magkita sila tanan
@ different subnet mask, say /26 or /28 etc. or any subnetted network cant see other subnetworks without a router.

Use IPv6 and you can connect every appliance on Earth to the Internet.
wow!!! could you please elaborate? we would like to know how.Originally Posted by simoncpu

d_dearca, of course they could ping each other. they're in the same subnet!Originally Posted by d_dearca
the original post here was having a problem that the /24 block address could not accommodate 400 hosts so they decided to use another /24 block address which would be in a different subnet. 192.36.252.0/24 (254 hosts) and 192.36.253.0/24 (254 hosts)
he asked if the .252 and the .253 subnets would communicate? and the answer is NO.
so how should they solve this problem?
1. if they want to use the .252 and .253 addresses, then they need to have a layer 3 device (a router for example) in between them to route traffic from .252 subnet to the .253 subnets or either way.
2. or simply, pick a larger address block and re-address all devices. in this case, you don't need the extra router. 10.0.0.0/8 could accommodate 16,581,373 hosts.
hope this clears things out.
